Teaching Assistant

We are an independent specialist day school for boys and girls aged from 5 – 19 catering for children with a wide range of needs across two sites, Bar Lane and The Gallery located in the heart of Wakefield Town Centre.

The Role

Due to continued growth we require a qualified Teaching Assistant with the relevant experience, to support access to learning for students and provide general support to the class teacher and other education staff in the management of pupils and the learning environment.

Occasionally, work may be carried outside the main teaching area including off site locations.  It would be an advantage to have experience in planning and leading parts of lessons within the classroom setting.  The ability to contribute to the development of our school is essential and we believe that energy, passion and a commitment to high standards are key characteristics required.  We are looking for a special individual who is able to help re-engage the young people that we serve.  This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their skills and experience in a challenging, motivating and highly rewarding environment.  

Purpose of the Job

To work under the direct instruction of an assigned teacher, usually in the designated learning environment with a teacher, to support access to learning for students and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.  Work may sometimes be undertaken outside the main teaching area - this may include off site locations including college settings. To lead small parts of lessons with a small number of students. To share the school’s responsibility to support and promote the learning, personal development and well-being of all students.

Key Result Areas 

To work under direct supervision/instruction to support access to learning by:

• Attending to the welfare and learning needs of students

• Working with and leading small groups or one to one

Hours

Hours for this position are 42.5 per week to be worked between 8:00am and 17.30 Monday to Friday and includes Staff Meetings, but you are expected to work on other days or at other hours when the volume and nature of your work demands this and as are reasonably necessary for the proper performance of your duties and proper functioning of the school.
