About St Joseph’s College Banora Point

An independent, co-educational Roman Catholic secondary day school, St Joseph’s College, Tweed Heads caters to students aged 12-18. The school has a combined teaching and support staff, with specialised staff dedicated to chaplaincy and pastoral care. It is located on Banora Point, New South Wales. 

The school was founded by the St Joseph’s parish in 1993 and has maintained a strong links to the local parish, focusing on faith formation alongside academic, cultural and sporting development. The parish also leads the nearby St Joseph's Primary School and St James' Primary School, which is situated on the college campus.

In 2014, the school campus underwent extensive refurbishment, with 16 new classrooms being built and the car park area expanded. The school library is active within the school, as a centre for technology, an after-school homework facility and with staff involved in developing the curriculum.

Curriculum 

The school’s learning support department works with students who have additional needs, and the enrichment programs identify students who are gifted, offering them a broader, accelerated curriculum. The learning management system, MOODLE, has been incorporated into the curriculum to continue developing the students' ICT skills and align with best teaching practice. The school is also expanding its Vocational Pathways program and offering school-based traineeships and apprenticeships. 

School ethos

“Peace through Justice” is the motto of St Joseph’s College. The school believes this philosophy, rooted in the Christian faith, champions a community spirit and historical and cultural circumstances. They promote social responsibility in their students, encouraging them to become involved with charity programs such as Project Compassion, the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal and the Kokoda Trail Trek.
