Harrogate Ladies’ College was founded 126 years ago and is an independent school with a Church of England foundation offering day, boarding and weekly boarding. The School is a member of the Girls’ School Association teaching boys and girls aged 2-11 and girls 11 -18 years.  Harrogate Ladies’ College was deemed to be Excellent in all areas in the ISI inspection of 2017.

Due to a staff relocation, we are looking to appoint a well-qualified, inspirational and enthusiastic Head of Spanish for two terms starting in January 2022. The successful candidate will provide effective leadership and will have experience and the ability to teach Spanish across all years from Year 8 to A level and be able to offer Oxbridge preparation.

Spanish is very successful within college. Girls can choose to start studying it in Year 8 and a majority of them continue with this language in years 10 and 11 and there is a healthy intake at Sixth Form level.

The successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of language learning, teaching, promoting and motivating staff and pupils in their subject area. A willingness to offer outstanding and vibrant lessons as well as leading trips to Spain/ Spanish speaking countries is essential. 

The department is really successful and consistently achieves excellent results at IGCSE and A-Level. It is well resourced with textbooks and online memberships. There is also a Spanish Language Assistant who offers conversational lessons to KS4 and KS5 students in small groups or individually. Teaching staff are encouraged to share good practice.
