Job overview

We seek to appoint a first-rate teacher of Business and/or Economics. Applicants who can teach either subject or both are equally welcomed.

Full time teachers at Uppingham play a full part in the life of this seven-day week boarding school, by taking on responsibilities in addition to classroom teaching.

We also welcome applications from those who wish to work on a part-time basis, which could consist of a teaching timetable without any wider contribution.

The person appointed will be a strong, dynamic character with excellent subject knowledge.

Uppingham School is a mixed, Church of England independent secondary school with sixth form and boarding, located in Leicestershire. The secondary school, situated in Uppingham has approximately 791 students on record.

Uppingham School was founded in 1584, originally as a school for boys. In 1975 girls were admitted, and it became fully co-educational as of 2001. The majority of students attending the secondary school are boarders.

Extra-curricular activities are encouraged for pupils to gain experience outside of the classroom across sport, theatre and the arts. The school’s main vision is for all students to feel a sense of belonging.

“Pupils demonstrate positive attitudes towards work and study. They have good literacy skills at all ages and articulate ideas and opinions fluently. Work is generally presented neatly and pupils’ note-taking is effective. They develop good numeracy skills and their capacity to think critically is notable. Creative abilities are well developed and their exploration of ideas is particularly marked in their enrichment activities. Pupils’ study habits are good. In the lessons observed, pupils worked very well with each other, and also worked well independently. They enjoy their work and this stems in part from the good-natured atmosphere in lessons. Pupils use information and communications technology (ICT) proficiently.”
