Theory of Knowledge Leader and Teacher, with Main Subject  

Due to continued expansion, The British International School of Stockholm wishes to employ a qualified and enthusiastic ToK Leader and teacher, for the IBDP. The successful candidate should also be able to teach a main subject up to Year 13. 

The successful candidates will have: 

  • Experience of leading and teaching ToK or similar (desirable) 
  •  Proven experience of teaching their main subject from Year 7 to 13 (essential) 
  • Knowledge and experience of teaching a subject at IBDP Higher Level (desirable)
  •  Outstanding interpersonal skills: a good listener with a collaborative leadership style
  •  Strong organisational and proven problem-solving skills 
  • The ability to lead and motivate talented staff and high achieving students 

In addition, applicants should: 

  • Be a fully qualified teacher (UK BEd or PGCE with relevant degree, or hold the equivalent recognised teaching qualifications from other countries)  
  • Have a minimum two years’ relevant teaching experience 
  • Be a fluent English speaker with excellent communication skills 
  • Be eligible to live and work in Sweden (have EU citizenship) 

The British International School of Stockholm is situated across a split site in Djursholm, a beautiful suburb of Stockholm. The school caters for the Nursery to Year 11 (soon to be Year 13) age range and enjoys an excellent reputation for both its academic progress and achievement, and its pastoral care. BISS is a vibrant and highly successful school of over 500 children from 40 different countries. Meeting internationally recognised standards of excellence, the school is an accredited member of COBIS (the Council of British International Schools) and received an excellent BSO inspection report.

In Secondary, BISS uses objectives from Cambridge Secondary and English National Curriculum, followed by Cambridge IGCSE courses for Years 10 and 11. We are currently working towards accelerated authorisation to begin teaching the IB Diploma from August 2019. If not, we will begin teaching it in August 2020.

About British International School of Stockholm

British International School of Stockholm is a co-educational all-through independent school based in Danderyd in Sweden.

The school was founded in 1980 and was initially run from a historic house in Danderyd called Borgen. It moved to its present location in Östra Valhallavägen in 1985. Originally called the British Primary School, the school chose to update its name to British International Primary School of Stockholm in 2000 before removing the word “primary” when the school expanded to include secondary children in 2014. The name is intended to reflect the fact that it is a truly international school with over 45 nationalities represented among pupils.
