“Teachers have excellent subject knowledge, and use this effectively to plan lessons with clear structure and purpose.  Many activities are imaginative and creative, keeping students focused and engaged.  Ofsted

We are offering a salaried School Direct training placement for September 2022 in Science.  This job will be paid on the Unqualified Teacher Scale subject to experience (£18,169-£28,725 per annum).  This would be suitable for a Science based degree and would focus on your area of specialism.

The school has an excellent reputation for Science resulting in many students continuing to study Biology, Chemistry or Physics at A level in the school’s large sixth form.  In Year 7 and 8, lessons are timetabled as 'Science' resulting in a more holistic view of the topics covered. From Year 9 onwards, the Sciences are taught separately allowing excellent and in depth preparation for external examinations. At GCSE students take either Triple Science  or Combined Science. A levels are offered in all the Sciences and are highly successful both in terms of results and as preparation for university.  Practical work forms a key part of Science lessons; we want students to discover things themselves and the best way to do this is through investigations.

We firmly believe that we offer a fantastic opportunity to learn to teach alongside truly inspirational teachers in exciting learning environments offering superb career development and support. Our partnership includes several schools in Kent.  As part of our training routes, you will train in a main school and then an additional, contrasting placement to give you a rounded programme.

We offer a supportive community of mentors, focusing on the foundations of what makes a strong classroom. All that we ask of our trainees is that they are dedicated to our students and will always be open to feedback and excited to learn and improve their own practice.  In joining us, we will make sure that when you look to make the next step in your career we have given you every opportunity to do so successfully.

Over the year you will have regular training sessions which are focused on how to be a great teacher.  During these sessions, we will cover a range of teaching approaches to your subject ensuring all our teachers have great support, and all our students receive the best possible education.

The Science Department consists of 10  colleagues supported by 4 Science Technicians.  Our science facilities are extensive and we will be starting a new building which will include 5 new laboratories.

Maidstone Grammar School for Girls is a very successful selective girls’ school of 1220 students with a mixed sixth form of approximately 340.  Since July 2019 we have been appointed by the Department for Education as a Computer Hub in recognition of the expertise the school has evidenced in Computing Education and will take a lead in training teachers across the south east in the delivery of Computing. The post offers the opportunity to work with intellectually able young people in a supportive and friendly environment.  Staff benefits include strong support for professional development and healthcare scheme.
