An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and creative Tutor to join our Supported Internship programme within our Lifestyle and Works team. You will have the opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team to help young people with a learning disability, learning difficulty and/or autism access the world of work.

As a Tutor on Mencap's Interns and Outcomes programme you will teach English and Maths by embedding it into lessons about employability and further life skills that will have a direct impact on the way your learners interact with their wider community. This role would suit someone who is looking for an opportunity to create fun and engaging lessons by thinking outside the box. To facilitate you to create your lesson plans you will be given at least one full day of planning and admin time a week.

Mencap have been helping people with a learning disability to find employment for over 45 years and this role would place you at the heart of our 3 Ships Programme. The 3 Ships Programme is Mencap’s education based programmes for supporting people with a learning disability to move closer to the job market and gain employment. The 3 Ships are Supported Internships, Traineeships and Apprenticeships.

Mencap's Supported Internships combines education and work experience to prepare our learners for employment. As a Tutor you will focus on the delivery of the educational element of Supported Internships programmes and will work closely with a group of Caseworkers to provide holistic support in finding paid employment. 

The successful candidate will deliver elements of teaching, learning and assessment to learners including accredited functional skills in both English and Mathematics. This Tutor role would suit a highly motivated and qualified teacher or someone looking to pursue this career. 

The role is part time (22.5 hours per week) maternity cover from August 2022 to March 2023 and based in the Telford area. Some travel may be required.

Key skills and requirements for a Tutor (essential):

Experience of supporting people

Experience of delivering against targets

Experience of working with a diverse group of learners

A-C/9-4 English & Maths GCSE (or equivalent)

Recognised teaching qualification at level 3 or above 

Knowledge and experience of delivering and assessing functional skills English and Maths up to level 2

Experience & knowledge of safe working practices

Good classroom management skills and strategies

Good time management and planning skills

Please note - The salary will be dependent on your level of qualification Level 3 PTLLS and Level 4 CTLLS £26,010 FTE. Level 5 DTLLS, PGCE or Cert Ed £28,091 FTE.
