Swans International School are looking to appoint a University and Careers Counsellor from September 2023.

This could be a full-time or a part-time role with some teaching hours, so candidates should state their preference and indicate which subject they are trained in.

The role will involve providing guidance for students from Year 9 to 13 on their possible future paths and tailoring their (I)GCSE and IB option choices to suitable university and career pathways. It will involve close liaison with the Sixth Form (IB) leadership team, as well as the Heads of Year from Year 9 upwards in organising events for students and parents in the promotion of post-school life. This will include university visits, careers events and work experience opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have had experience in this position and be adept at establishing relationships with universities, with the ability to effectively promote our school in the international higher education sphere, with a particular focus on the UK, US and Europe. They must have effective time-management skills and be responsible for the diverse range of applications being received from a growing Sixth Form, while liaising closely with teaching staff.

They will be in charge of:

Assisting students and their parents in making the correct choice of destination

Informing the school and the wider community about applications processes and admissions testing

Counselling students from Year 9 upwards on possible pathways for the future, including preparation for Oxbridge applications

Running an IB Workshop programme for Years 12 and 13 to include guidance on university pathways

Running PSHE lessons for KS3 and KS4, encompassing career options (using the Unifrog programme) as well as contributing to the broader PSHE curriculum

Coordinate Personal Statements and References that give students the best chance of achieving a place at their first-choice destination

Be responsible for the post-results service and clearing process during the summer break

Requirements:

EU passport or Spanish residency (UK candidates may still apply)

PGCE or equivalent qualification in Education is not required but would be preferred
