About Shanghai United International School - Pudong Campus

Shanghai United International School (SUIS) Pudong Campus

Address: 48 Xueye Road, Pudong District, Shanghai

SUIS Pudong is a member of the largest educational not-for-profit organization (Xiehe) in Shanghai. The campus accommodates two separate schools, 'International' and one that uses a version of the Chinese National Curriculum called 'Premier'. We seek qualified and experienced teachers to join us in maintaining our excellent reputation for international education here in China.

The International School is unique in Xiehe in that it uses the same curriculum in a whole-through 'East meets West' primary and secondary programme on the same campus. If you are passionate about education and getting the best out of every child you teach then we are very interested in you applying to us.

Our school adopts the National Curriculum for England (NCfE) throughout as its foundation in preparation for pupils to be admitted to the best universities in the world. This ensures our students gain a consistent education, while transition from Primary and Secondary is excellent. At Secondary School, students will take IGCSE and A Levels to complete their educational pathway.

The International Primary School (ages 5-11) is currently well established with approximately 400 pupils while the Secondary is a growing and thriving school with around 250 students (aged 11-18) starting from August 2019. Both schools have earned many awards and achievements. Our Primary students came first in Asia and in the top ten in the world, in Mathletics and the World Education Games respectively - the largest online competitions of their type on earth. All students are gifted and talented and admission to the school is highly competitive. Given the strong demand for places, we have to reject more than 600 student applications every year. English, Chinese and Spanish (Secondary) are studied with classes arranged for first and additional language speakers separately in each, thereby demonstrating our strong commitment to educating our students in the world's three foremost languages spoken by the majority of people on the planet. Our Primary school focuses the Cambridge curriculum.

Our school community is renowned for its creative and nurturing approach. Both Primary and Secondary school productions were written and performed by our students and the musical score composed by our teachers. This is a cultural tradition we are proud of and aim to continue.

Meanwhile, the Premier Stream adopts a new curriculum which tries to put into practice the concept of 'East meets West'. Compared with the International stream, Premier is an experimental curriculum which is not only the Chinese National curriculum or UK curriculum. Simply explained, in Premier, Chinese and maths follow the Chinese National curriculum, English follows UK English curriculum, and the other subjects integrate Chinese and international educational elements together. Western English teachers in Premier stream teach English, science and theme. Additionally, we have specialists teachers as well for Music, Art and PE. In order to provide the best ‘East meets West’ education to children and support them to become global citizens, subjects are co-taught and classes have co-homeroom teachers which include both a western and Chinese teacher. Premier stream is in its 9th year and is continually improving upon itself in order to provide the best possible education to its students.

In both schools, staff turnover is very low with many teachers seeing SUIS Pudong as an excellent pathway for professional growth. Many have become leaders and continuously receive our support in their development. If you are interested in making a significant impact on our friendly and high-achieving school entering an exciting phase in its development, then we strongly recommend you apply.
