Job overview

If you really want to make a difference and improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable children and young people, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

As a TA, you will get a unique opportunity to work 1:1 and in small groups with our fantastic pupils. As we are a therapeutic provision, we blend academic learning with personal development and social skills. To support this, you will be a key worker for a child, supporting them back into education and helping them achieve far beyond what they ever thought possible.

Many of our pupils have had incredibly negative experiences of education and therefore lack self-esteem and confidence. By utilising our nurturing and relationship focussed approach, you will help develop pupils trust and belief, encouraging them to flourish.

At our school, we educate children differently. Teachers plan and assess work but our TA’s often deliver lessons as pupils feel safer and are more likely to take educational risks in 1:1 and small group settings. You will be supported with CPD and regular team meetings.

The Place Independent School is more than just a school, we are a community of dedicated individuals all working together to provide the best possible life opportunities for any child, regardless of their needs or previous experiences. No two days are ever the same, so it is vital you have the flexibility and resilience to work in this truly rewarding sector.

About the School

The Place Independent School is a truly unique provision set within the stunning estate of Belvoir Castle. Situated across two sites, the school caters for pupils with a variety of needs including social, emotional and mental health needs and Autistic Spectrum Condition. We also have a high percentage of looked after and adopted children and we are specialists in working with children with attachment difficulties. The school is currently registered to work with an age range of 7–18 and has a capacity of 26. However, we are currently going through an exciting development to increase our capacity and enhance our secondary and vocational offer. The school is currently rated as Good in all areas by Ofsted.

What makes us different is the way we interact with our pupils and how we deliver our curriculum. Working on high staff ratios, pupils receive truly bespoke educational experiences, tailored to their individual needs. We also utilise our farm and woodland settings as a tool for engagement and to reignite our pupils love for learning. Through doing this, we remove barriers, develop self-esteem and provide children with the opportunity to achieve accreditation in a wide array of academic and vocational subjects. Qualifications range from Entry Level – GCSE.

We believe that no young person should be failed as a direct result of their past experiences and complex histories, and we are committed to helping them overcome adversity and provide a positive influence upon their current and future lives.

About Edison Education

Although The Place Independent School is its own school, it is part of Edison Education, a dedicated education and care company working with some of the UK’s most vulnerable children. Being part of a group means you will have access to peer Headteachers, strong and supportive Governance and the ability to share resources.

Edison believes that no young person should fail as a result of their experience and complex histories. That is why we are dedicated to the care and education of the most vulnerable children and young people in our society who, through no fault of their own, are often unable to be accommodated anywhere else.

As a group, we are dedicated to continuous professional development and we pride ourselves on supporting colleagues to realise their professional goals, develop skills, knowledge and expertise, and support career development.

Joining The Place Independent School
