Job overview

Are you passionate about working alongside great people committed to transforming the lives of others?

Do you want to work and lead in an educational setting that appreciates the complex interplay between curriculum design, effective pedagogy and assessment?

Are you excited about working within a Trust that encourages collaboration whilst also allowing constituent schools their own character and ways of working?

If you have answered yes to the above and have a proven track record of improving and/or sustaining excellent school performance at a senior level, you are strongly encouraged to apply for this role at the City of London Academy (Southwark).

The new Principal (starting in April 2019) is looking to appoint a VP Academic to lead on significant aspects of the academy including Curriculum design, Teaching and Learning, Assessment and Data. You will be ably supported by a large senior leadership team, some of whom will be your direct reports.

You will share our view that excellent pastoral care is key to our community’s continuing success, and know that excellent pastoral care and an unwavering commitment towards high standards for behaviour can and must sit hand in hand for our students to succeed. We strive to nurture resourceful, resilient and well-rounded young people who are prepared to shape and lead the 21st century.

If you share our vision and you are an experienced and reflective senior leader with excellent pedagogical, curriculum, assessment and data expertise, we would very much like to hear from you.

Please visit our website at: www.cityacademy.co.uk, where you can access further information, including our prospectuses, newsletters and videos, to encourage you to progress your interest. To apply, you will need to complete the TES online application form and at the same time email hr@cityacademy.co.uk with a short personal statement in which you are invited to answer the following question in under 1000 words, “How have you led academic excellence in your recent role(s), and how would you create an effective synthesis between pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment and data at CoLA Southwark?”

The closing date for applications is 11.59 p.m. on Wednesday 20th February 2019, and interviews will be held over one day on Tuesday 26th February or Wednesday 27th February 2019.

Potential applicants may visit the Academy on Tuesday 12th February 2019 from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m., when you will have an opportunity to tour the Academy and meet members of the Senior Leadership Team. Please advise us at hr@cityacademy.co.uk if you would like to attend.

The City of London Academy (Southwark) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with previous employers. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced check with the Disclosure Barring Service.
