Job overview

As an 11-19 secondary school serving nearly 1,200 students in central Gateshead, we have some ambitious plans for the future. We have recently joined the Emmanuel Schools Foundation, creating exceptional opportunities for knowledge sharing and career development – and with the renowned Emmanuel College itself just seven minutes away, we have a clear local model for excellence. We are committed to releasing the potential of our students and staff alike, and we have four key priorities for improvement – leadership, curriculum development, teaching and student engagement in extracurricular activities. You will be central to delivering our strategy, as you transform both the school and our students’ futures.

We wish to appoint an experienced and talented senior leader to join our vibrant and wonderful school community.

We are absolutely committed to providing the very best education for our students and we are seeking to appoint a strong candidate to this role who has the right skillset, values and attributes. You should share an unswerving commitment to raising standards across all areas of the school for all groups of students, and be able to deliver on the full brief of a Vice Principal. However, we are looking for a candidate with a strong background in Inclusion, Behaviour and Attendance, and ensuring that ‘provision’ meets the needs of our most complex students. You will understand that your role will evolve over time.

Your track record to date should clearly evidence the impact that you have had as a senior leader in shaping whole school culture, as well as in raising achievement.

You will have responsibility for a number of key strategic whole-school areas as well as effectively carrying out a full range of day-to-day operational duties. You will be expected to readily build positive relationships with students and enjoy working alongside them and their families in order to ensure that they thrive and achieve. You should genuinely revel in working with young people. Outstanding teaching and learning lies at the heart of every successful school and we place a high premium on this. You will be required to teach as part of your role.

We are seeking to appoint a person who:

  • Has an outstanding track record in educational leadership with proven success and demonstrable impact.
  • Is able to think strategically, analytically and creatively about learning and teaching and have the personal authority and communication skills to make a difference.
  • Has the vision, imagination and commitment to be part of a team that takes the college to ‘outstanding’ and beyond.
  • Is committed to the continuous improvement of people and systems.

Join us and you can expect to be nurtured, supported and encouraged at every step of your career through the Emmanuel College Teaching School. We are committed to investing in you and your career development, with the possibility of working closely with colleagues at Emmanuel College, one-to-one coaching and future opportunities to undertake educational research. In short, we are looking for exceptional educators, phenomenal school leaders and committed professionals. Your skilled and inspiring leadership will drive improvement to take Grace College to the next level. We believe that working, as part of our team, you will bring added benefit to our students and families while enhancing and developing your career.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Grace College is an 11-19 secondary school serving over 1200 students in central Gateshead. The school is committed to creating an outstanding learning community where students excel in their academic, cultural, co-curricular and personal lives. The College joined the Emmanuel Schools Foundation (ESF) in April 2019 as the fifth school providing a holistic education focused on developing character in and beyond the classroom.  ESF seeks to: provide and support schools in which students and staff have the opportunity to work hard to achieve their personal best; encourage personal, moral and spiritual development within a Christian framework and create and sustain educational environments where everyone is equally valued.

Our schools are committed to assisting economic regeneration and prosperity in the north-east, and to improve the quality of community life through our work with young people. We aspire to impart wisdom to the next generation by educating young men and women in a school culture which prioritises the pursuit of knowledge and the development of character. We serve communities of students, staff and parents who hold many different religious and ideological positions who unite around our core beliefs and core values, which are underpinned by our Christian ethos.

We value academic excellence, but we hold personal best to be of far greater importance. It is our experience that by developing a strong work ethic, holding a growth rather than fixed mind-set, and being provided with outstanding tuition, students may go on to achieve considerably more than they might have imagined possible. We seek to be intentional about character education, our aim being that our students will, in the future, become servant-hearted leaders. Students starting here encounter consistent rules, role models and traditions, which help them feel part of the college community and to begin to take responsibility for others. As students grow older we expect more of them and in the Sixth Form expect our students to take on at least one formal leadership role in the college as well as beginning to serve in the wider community.

Our hope is that all students leave the college as well-rounded, qualified individuals who are able to articulate a viewpoint and back it up with substantial knowledge and understanding. Students are encouraged to achieve academic excellence to access first-rate employment opportunities or to gain access to outstanding universities across the country.

Grace College provides opportunities for colleagues to collaborate and develop professionally with others across ESF. We are committed to an extensive, high quality programme of professional development and to opportunities for career progression. Working within ESF provides an ideal opportunity for ambitious educators who aspire to future senior leadership and will benefit from input through our National Teaching School designation.

If you share our passion for excellence and would like to find out more then please contact us to make arrangements to visit the school.

We look forward to hearing from you.
