The British School of Guangzhou (BSG) is the largest international school in Guangzhou. Established in 2005 for children aged 1-18, the school is located on the shores of the beautiful South Lake and is widely recognised for academic excellence leading to successful entry into some of the world's top universities. About the role

The British School of Guangzhou is looking for a highly qualified and experienced school leader to join our successful senior management team. The successful candidate will need to be a leader who can help us to achieve our goal of becoming the number one international school in the China region. You will be an excellent communicator who gets on well with colleagues, students, parents, technology and change. To deliver our high standard of educational excellence, we are looking for applicants who are experienced, confident, well organised, have a good sense of humour and a willingness to participate fully in all aspects of school life within and beyond the classroom. Reporting directly to the Principal, you will be someone with excellent people skills who is able to inspire your colleagues within SLT, to help guide the overall strategic direction of the school.

About you

Will need to hold a good degree, or better, with a minimum of 3-years leadership experience, in the UK, or in a reputable British Curriculum International School.

Will be an excellent communicator, who gets on well with colleagues, students, parents, technology and change. Amongst other things, you will need to be dedicated to creating a love of learning amongst the students and understand the importance of enjoyment in the education process. You will need to be well organised; have a good sense of humour and an understanding of the expectations of high achieving international parents. While we are keen to attract applicants with high expectations, they will also need to have a flexible nature and an understanding that things do not always go to plan within China. If you are not able to deal with frustrations in a culturally sensitive manner this is not the post for you.

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the IGCSE and A-Level curriculum;
  • Demonstrate that they are personally, socially and academically ambitious for all our students;
  • Relentlessly pursue outstanding academic performance maintaining our reputation as one of the most academically successful schools in NAE;
  • Help us to blend the best of premium British education with contemporary international education to create a distinctive positioning for the school;
  • Monitor assessment coordinators to ensure a consistent approach to academic learning and assessment across the school
  • Inspire trust and confidence in students, parents and colleagues;
  • Be passionate about children and their education;
  • Be driven to help a high achieving school get even better;
  • Be an innovative and creative thinker;
  • Respect, appreciate and understand a variety of cultures and societies;

Some key tasks and responsibilities of the post will include:

  • Oversee academic budgets prudently and ensure value for money
  • Oversee the delivery of a high quality English language acquisition programme across the school;
  • Leading the development of our weekend academies programme;
  • Marketing the school through the quality performances and events;
  • Promoting NAE collaborations with the Juilliard School, MIT and Kings College London;
  • Promoting high quality assemblies as a way to create parent advocates;
  • Monitoring and intervening to ensure student progress is in line with the school’s expectations;
  • Promoting the academic successes of our Secondary students to all parents;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development through NAU;
  • Actively promote the opportunities that are available through Global Campus;
  • Ensure that staff, students and the wider community are fully aware of the value of the NAE offer;
  • Other professional requirements in line with the Job Description

Selection Process

The closing date for application is 31st December 2017.

First stage interviews will be conducted by Skype or telephone and final interviews will take place at the Nord Anglia Education Recruitment Event in central London in the week commencing 29th January 2018 (alternative arrangements will be made for candidates who cannot attend in person).
