Vice Principal (Primary), Huangpu, Guangzhou

This is an outstanding opportunity to serve as Vice Principal with responsibility for the Primary School in the first of Shrewsbury International Asia’s three planned schools in Mainland China. Shrewsbury School Huangpu, Guangzhou will open in August 2021. It will be an all-through school primarily for Chinese students that will take the long-established traditions of Shrewsbury School in the UK into the Chinese context.

The School’s curriculum will be a dual language programme, aiming to develop the highest levels of bilingual and bicultural fluency. The School will prepare its students to become global citizens, able to proceed to the great universities of the world with undergraduate levels of proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English. The School will focus on Chinese national curriculum requirements up to Year 10, integrating international elements and Shrewsbury’s approach to education, followed by a three-year Sixth Form programme leading to A Levels.

The Vice Principal (Primary) will support the Founding Principal and the Chinese Principal through the School’s start-up phase and guide the Primary School’s early development. The Vice Principal will be a key part of the Senior Management Team which, under the leadership of the Principal, will have the autonomy to lead and guide the School while also enjoying the support of Shrewsbury International Asia and other leaders in the Shrewsbury group.

The opportunity should appeal to primary school leaders who are excited by the idea of working on the founding of a new school – taking up position a year ahead of opening to join the team designing the School and then becoming part of the pioneering management team. The position would suit a candidate who has the potential and capacity to become a future Shrewsbury International Asia Principal, and SIA is committed to developing its leaders with this possibility in mind. Equally, it would suit a candidate whose ambitions are likely to remain focused on leadership as a deputy in a start-up situation.
