The Board of Directors of the Newman Catholic Collegiate invite applications for the post of Vice Principal at St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy, Stoke on Trent.

This is a vital position in our successful secondary school, one which offers an excellent preparation for headship. Applicants must have exceptional leadership and management skills, be an outstanding classroom practitioner and have the interpersonal skills to drive an ethos of continual improvement towards and beyond excellent personal welfare, spiritual development and academic learning.

The successful candidate must be a practising Catholic in good standing with the church and will demonstrate:-

  • A clear vision and understanding of Catholic education
  • The ability to plan strategically in order to deliver the school’s vision, ethos, priorities and targets. 
  • The skills to think strategically, analytically and creatively about learning and teaching.
  • The inclination to remain positive and solution focused.
  • High expectations and aspirations for young people, colleagues and parents. 
  • The commitment to continuous improvement of people and systems.
  • A commitment to ensuring a safeguarding culture 
  • The skills to work successfully as a team member establishing effective working relationships and flexible working practices. 
  • Experience of following direction, showing initiative and working in collaboration with colleagues, parents, pupils and the school community. 

The successful candidate will be a leader who will relish the opportunity to join the recently appointed Principal in their undertaking to transform a good Catholic school into a truly great, innovative and life-changing one.

St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy is a co-educational, Catholic secondary school with academy status in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. There are approximately 1,072 students on the school roll, across the 11-16 and sixth-form provisions. Tunstall is located to the north-west of Stoke. The population is roughly 6,000 and it is known for its history of pottery and textiles. 

At the beginning of each academic year, sixth-form students at St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy visit the campus of a Cambridge college. The school is named for a 16th-century Catholic martyr, who was executed during the reign of Elizabeth I for assisting a priest to escape from prison. The most famous former student is singer-songwriter Robbie Williams.

The core values of St Margaret Ward are perseverance, integrity, independence, fulfilment, and love. These qualities create an environment of inclusivity and foster the desire of pupils and teachers to reach and even exceed expectations.

The secondary school's students and staff grow together on their faith journey, with daily opportunities for prayer and reflection. Pupils are encouraged to see God all around them, in each other, and in themselves. There are assemblies and other acts of worship each week for students in different year groups.
