The Portsmouth Grammar School is a leading co-educational school located in the historic heart of Portsmouth.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring singing teacher to join our team of talented and dedicated instrumental teachers and teach 1:1 lessons, specializing in musical theatre.

1:1 lessons also support a variety of choral groups and ensembles, organized by the Music Department and the annual school musical in November.

Instrumental teachers are self-employed and sign a consultancy agreement with the school. This is a temporary appointment to cover maternity leave and is likely to be for two terms.

There is currently a requirement for approximately 11 hours of teaching each week.

Teaching will be available in both the Junior and Senior Departments and from beginner level to advanced.   

Genuine enthusiasm for enabling each individual pupil to achieve their potential (at all levels) is essential. 

There is an expectation that Visiting Music Teachers at PGS attend INSET training, for example in Safeguarding and Health and Safety.

ISI Report 2022

During an ISI Inspection in late 2022 both the achievement of the pupils, including their academic development and the personal development of the pupils were found to be excellent - the highest possible classification. The Inspection also looked at the School’s compliance with the regulatory standards and requirements. PGS met all the standards required.
