Visiting Music Tutor (African Drums)

An inspiring and enthusiastic individual is sought to join our thriving and successful Music Department, to run inspiring weekly workshop-style djembe groups with children between the ages of 7 and 13.

Experience & Background

An inspirational and encouraging tutor, who can motivate students and encourage an ethos of listening, working together and having a great time making music. The tutor would be working in an enthusiastic and passionate department lead by a team of professional musicians. We also regularly collaborate with the art, dance and drama department in an atmosphere of creativity and artistic vision.  A team player with good communication skills, you will have an enthusiastic approach in all of your dealings with pupils, colleagues and parents.

Duties 

• Enable the pupils to perform musically and to achieve their full potential in music examinations, competitions and concert performances as appropriate. 
• Facilitate one-to-one lessons and coaching ensembles. 
• Carry out pupil assessments and provide written reports. 
• Complete any administrative tasks in relation to the post including recording missed lessons.

If you have a good degree or diploma in Music, have highly effective teaching skills, the ability to inspire, empower and motivate pupils to engage with new initiatives with a genuine commitment to putting pupils first and an enjoyment of working with young people, we would welcome your application.

Hours of Work

We can offer approximately two and half hours of work that take place during a day from 11am and finishing at 4pm, with the possibility of another hour timetabling and student sign-up permitting. There is also the scope to develop drumming at the senior school. Termly concerts include the djembe groups and the teacher will be expected and paid to come along to lead and support. There is some flexibility as to when this tutoring can take place and applicants are invited to provide information on the days and hours of their availability as part of their application.
