Job overview

To further enhance the drama provision at St. Edward’s, we are seeking a Visiting Teacher of Speech and Drama to provide after school lessons to individuals or pairs of pupils.

Working between 4:30pm to 9pm, 3 evenings per week, you will provide lessons usually consisting of vocal and physical warm-ups, work on text, improvisation and technique. Added to this you will be expected to plan weekly timetables, taking into account the availability of pupils and to record details on the School’s intranet system.

Students are set individual ambitious targets and challenges to find their own acting path. For many, that might mean getting them prepared for regular exams from LAMDA – which are offered on site every term. For specific individuals higher up the school, that may mean seeing progress in grade 8 or diploma qualifications; for others, that may mean the huge achievement of gaining a first grade in Acting, Public Speaking or Devising. For other pupils, that might mean developing repertoire, exploring acting techniques or performing in presentation evenings; there are opportunities as part of the weekly Friday at Five concert series, as well as major LAMDA presentation evenings every June in the North Wall Theatre.

Overall, we hope we can find every student a path where they can develop their confidence to act, perform and refine their theatricality on stage. This role is key to achieving this.

The successful candidate will have experience of teaching young people and will have a good understanding of LAMDA syllabuses. The ability to enthuse about speech and drama with pupils from a variety of different backgrounds is essential as is the ability to set targets and encourage students to exceed expectations.

In return, St Edward’s can offer a variety of benefits including:

  • A friendly and inclusive working environment
  • Free meals
  • Free Nuffield Health Gym membership (including membership for your partner and children under the age of 21)
  • Free car parking
  • Defined contribution pension scheme with Scottish Widows. The standard employee contribution rate is 5% with the employer contributing 8%. From 1st September 2022, enhanced contributions by the employee will be matched by the employer, up to the cap of 12%
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee assistance programme
