Background Information:

Taunton School is just over 170 years old. It is an Independent School for over 1000 boys and girls, aged from 2 to 18 years with approximately 350 boarders. The aim of the School is to prepare young people to shape the world in the 21st century.  Taunton School International (TSI) was set up by Taunton School in 1996 to provide a first step for international students wishing to complete their education in a British school. It is located on the school campus, is fully residential and has places for 84 boys and girls aged 15 to 17 years.  It shares the school’s facilities and is part of the school community.

In September 2012, TSI expanded by opening Taunton School International Middle School (TSIMS) for children aged 9 to 14 years. TSIMS is located three miles off campus at The Grange, Kingston St Mary.

Overall Purpose:

Pastoral Assistants work under the direction of the Houseparents who report to the Head of Middle School. With other members of the pastoral team, they are responsible for upholding the strong pastoral system of the school.  Their duties take place at the weekends and occasionally during weekday evenings.  The ethos of the school is a shared responsibility to which all staff are expected to make a significant contribution.  The expectation is that staff will be positive and contribute cheerfully to the life and work of the school.

This position would suit a flexible and adaptable person who has experience of working with children and can demonstrate good communication and pastoral skills with an ability to empathise with international students. The successful candidate will help run the boarding house, deliver the leisure programme and provide pastoral care to the students at Taunton School International Middle School.
