The Role

Reporting to the Supervisor: Work, Health and Safety-Systems this role is responsible for providing professional advice, assistance and support in the implementation and maintenance of Sydney Catholic Schools (“SCS”) organisation-wide WHS systems. This includes the associated tools, resources and technology

The Work, Health and Safety Adviser – Systems will be required to perform tasks which include but are not limited to: 

  • drive an accountability-based culture of health and safety across SCS to ensure a safe work environment for all staff, students, clients, volunteers, and contractors 
  • provide effective support to the Supervisor: Work, Health and Safety Systems to drive the ongoing development and implementation of the WHS Strategy for SCS
  • oversee the reporting process to resolve any issues and maintaining service delivery to ensure efficient communication, data collection and reporting
  • assist in the ongoing development and implementation of the WHS and risk management system to facilitate efficiency and consistency
  • interface with stakeholders and providing advice to ensure complex reporting issues are effectively resolved
  • monitor the central tracking, reporting and management through the use of PHRIS and risk management systems of hazards, near misses, incidents, and injuries and providing relevant reports to the WHS Committee, leadership team and other stakeholders within the organisation
  • identify opportunities for initiatives to improve safety and return to work processes, procedures and systems.
  • assist in developing, implementing and maintaining the WHS Document Framework including policies, procedures, guidelines and forms to meet relevant legislative requirements and SCS policy and strategic objectives
  • provide training and guidance for WHS and Health and Wellbeing Advisers to ensure they have the skills and understanding to operate PHRIS safety systems
  • maintain sound knowledge of current legislation, standards, policies and guidelines relevant to areas of responsibility and ensuring that all work activities comply with relevant legislation, standards and organisational policies.


The Person

To be successful in this role, it is essential you have attained the following knowledge and experience;

  • tertiary qualification/s in Work, Health and Safety, Health, Risk Management, Injury management or other relevant fields with at least five years post-qualified experience 
  • ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
  • experience in the implementation of WHS management systems within a complex organisation
  • comprehensive understanding of WHS legislation, regulations and guidelines
  • sound analytical, investigation skills and incident report writing
  • excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • experience in customer service and liaising with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • current driver’s licence and a comprehensively insured vehicle.

Desirable

  • demonstrated understanding/experience of working in a Catholic, Education, not-for-profit or public-sector organisation
  • Postgraduate qualification/s in Health and Safety, Health, Risk Management, Injury Management or other relevant fields.
