Job overview

One of our Year 2 teachers is moving abroad with her family and as a result a teaching position becomes available at the school. The Lower School is a vibrant place to teach and work. There is a strong positive vibe and all the teachers and assistants work together in a collaborative way.

It is an exciting time for the Lower School and we have just appointed a new Head of Lower School, Mrs Victoria McSorland. Many classes are full and we have recently expanded Year 2 due to a demand for places. The other Year 2 teacher, Mrs Davies, has recently moved from our Nursery class where she was covering a maternity leave and has bags of experience; prior to this she was a Deputy in the state sector.

Thorngrove School is a co-educational independent preparatory school in Highclere, near Newbury in Berkshire, for 2 1/2 -13 year olds. It accommodates approximately 220 pupils.

Thorngrove School was founded in 1988 by Nick and Connie Broughton. They wanted to create an establishment that provided for all children, whatever their abilities. Recent developments have included a 3 lane cricket net facility and personal devices for all children in Year 3 up. The school will be celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2023.

Vision and values

Thorngrove School aims to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, developing pupils' academic education as well as their interest in extra-curricular pursuits. Teachers strive to provide a nurturing environment for every child and to promote teamwork and friendship between year groups. The pre-preparatory school maximises the use of all school facilities, including the woods and fields.

While Thorngrove School excels at teaching core subjects, it also provides outstanding extra-curricular activities. Pupils have access to specialist art and pottery sessions, music lessons and drama classes led by a fully qualified LAMDA teacher. Plenty of sports are on offer.
