Based on the life story of Saint Valentine and why Valentine’s Day is celebrated…

Includes:

  • A PDF version of the story to share with the children

  • Hand drawn pictures for the children to cut out, sequence, write about and colour in.

The print out includes a word bank and captions to cut and stick if needed for differentiation and to meet the needs of the children.

After hearing his story, the children need to cut out the pictures and put the story back into the correct order.

To differentiate:

Support could cut out and sequence the pictures. (The last page has the numbered answers which can stick next to the correct picture if they are unable to do the writing.)
Core children can sequence and use the word bank to also write about the pictures.
More able children can sequence and write independently with given challenges such as ‘Include at least 3 time adverbials’.
Sequencing activities usually take a few sessions.

  1. Cut, order and stick the activities.

  2. Writing captions for the first half of the images

  3. Writing for the second half of the activities. I usually ask the children to colour after they have met the objectives for that session and finish colouring in at the end.

Black and white. No colour ink needed!
