The roles of men and women in the Church

The roles of men and women in the Church

This is a PowerPoint which can be used in GCSE RS, when looking at the equality and roles of men and women within the Christian Church. This lesson looks at the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, and examines the reasons why some people argue that women cannot be priests. It also looks at conflicting views which argue that women can fulfil the role of a priest just as well as a man. There is a clip from the Vicar of Dibley (the arrival of Geraldine) from YouTube to spark discussion about the stereotypical views of priests, as well as a clip from the BBC which addresses the arguments for and against women as priests. There is also a 12 mark exam style question for students to grapple with as a plenary. NOTE: videos are hyperlinked into the pictures in the slides. Please rate and leave feedback :) Many thanks.

12 Days of Christmas

12 Days of Christmas

Adaptable PowerPoint about The 12 Days of Christmas song and it's possible Christian meanings. The Twelve Days of Christmas is usually seen as simply a song for children with secular origins. However, some have suggested that it is a song of Christian instruction, perhaps dating to the 16th century religious wars in England, with hidden references to the basic teachings of the Christian Faith.  The following slides depict each of the 12 days in turn, first with images from the song and then the possible Christian meanings.

Looking For Meaning GCSE Religious Studies Revision Game Cards For Humanity

Looking For Meaning GCSE Religious Studies Revision Game Cards For Humanity

This unit revises Looking For Meaning from Paper 1: Religion and Life Issues for WJEC Spec B. My take on 'Cards Against Humanity' - Cards FOR Humanity revises Religious Studies GCSE (WJEC) through a fun, competitive and interactive card game. Each game required three or more players to play. Rules are the same as the original game: - 7 white cards each at all times - players rotate the person who ask the question on the black card - asker chooses the winning answer - winner keeps the black card - pick up of new white cards for the players who spent a card on that round - asker rotates - winner is the player with the most black cards (correct answers) at the end of the game :) A classroom favourite of my pupils :) highly competitive!

Facebook Bible Activity Paul

Facebook Bible Activity Paul

A lesson, which asks pupils to use their Bibles to find out about the life of Paul, they can then make their own Facebook page. I used this with Year 7, it worked well and taught them how to use the Bible in a fun and engaging way.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: JESUS FEEDS THE FIVE THOUSAND MIRACLES YEAR 5/6 QUESTION WEB Mind Map

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: JESUS FEEDS THE FIVE THOUSAND MIRACLES YEAR 5/6 QUESTION WEB Mind Map

This is an RE resource to use with Year 5/6 it is specifically based on Jesus teaching and miracles. * Further resources and questions can be used in school from the syllabus 'The Truth' a publication for christian teaching see link below http://tere.org/publications/secondary/the-truth/ It may also be useful to use visual references of the feeding of the five thousand such as posters or web images are very useful tools to enable the children to imagine the crowds and the scene as the miracle was performed. The first resource provides a mind map of key question asked by a reporter at the event about the miracle Jesus performed "the feeding of the five thousand." These questions are for the children to consider in a group situation or pairs and discuss the possible answers in detail. They can also create their own questions they personally would like to add if used on a laptop or computer they can edit and add their own questions from the reporters point of view. The second resource provides differentiated key questions for various ability groups to answer about the feeding of the five thousand. * An extension or follow up to these activity would be to write a report of the events in the style of a Newspaper article about the feeding of the five thousand using a snappy headline, eye witness accounts and quotes as answered by disciples and witnesses on the mind map or question web.

Angels - pictures for sorting - SEN resource/nursery/infant

Angels - pictures for sorting - SEN resource/nursery/infant

I created this resources to be used printed off and as a sorting activity. Students could sort the pictures by which ever category their group decided. Hence this also covers speaking and listening as it provides plenty of opportunity for lots of discussion. They sorted them into the material the angels were made from such as stone, glass, metal but the other group sorted them into 'with halo&', &';without halo' which was interesting. This resource could also be used as a springboard to an art/dt activity. Please leave comments.
