Latin Quotes with English translations, including full grammatical explanations and background info

Latin Quotes with English translations, including full grammatical explanations and background info

This set includes twelve Latin quotes, by both famous and lesser known authors, with their English translations, to use as display posters in the classroom, for example when teaching a unit on Romans or Ancient History or in any Latin class. After each poster quote I have included some information for the teacher to introduce the new quote to the classs, including a full grammatical Latin explanation of the quote, background information on the author and time, and a section on the meaning and interpretation of this specific quote so students know how and when they could use it in daily life. I use posters like these every week all school year long in my classes, and students collected them in their books and looked forward to the new quote each week. They starting using the most popular quotes in their conversations with each other, and often told me after a test when asked how it went, “oh, veni, vidi, vici!”

Italy - 50 Minute - Reading Activity Guide

Have your students read an interesting article about Italy. The reading for this activity guide is lively, full of facts and has lots of pictures. It covers basic facts, sights to see, language, animals and the people there. The article is 11 pages long and is a nice straightforward summary with supporting pictures. Italian New Year Traditions - KS3 - Worksheet and Answers

Italian New Year Traditions - KS3 - Worksheet and Answers

Excellent resource, outlining in four short paragraphs a series of Italian traditions and customs for New Year's Eve. Document includes a short text, a series of questions in English to consolidate understanding, answers to the questions and helpful vocabulary. The text is adapted from a longer article online (link on worksheet) and can easily be lengthened if not challenging enough for group. I use this with a year 7 and a year 10 Italian class, both several months into their Italian language studies. Acts as a great springboard for further discussion and cultural comparisons, and introduces them to a range of authentic vocabulary. A perfect first lesson back in January, topical and interesting.

Italian Christmas Vocabulary and Traditions - KS3 + KS4 - Whole lesson

Italian Christmas Vocabulary and Traditions - KS3 + KS4 - Whole lesson

Excellent resource, perfect for KS3 and KS4 to introduce / re-cap Italian Christmas vocabulary (una renna, il Babbo Natale and so on) and discuss Christmas and New Year traditions. Fully differentiated with 'Want more', 'Challenge' and 'Want support' options for students, including extension questions linking to reading comprehension and comprehensive A4 page Word Bank, paragraph-by-paragraph to support lower ability learners. Fully animated with all answers and notes under each slide to give overview of each activity. A huge time saver, took a whole afternoon to make! Can be used for one or two lessons depending on ability of group. Lesson begins by asking students to work out Christmas vocabulary. Emphasis on independent learning. A game is then played, either holding up cards or writing the correct letter of the image that corresponds to the given word on a mini-whiteboard. A reading comprehension on Italian Christmas traditions follows. The reading comprehension offers a great opportunity to discuss cultural differences, including food (for example il panettone), the different days in the festive calendar for Italians (8 December, 6 January etc.) and similarities. The reading text is taken from 'Noi parliamo italiano' (link on worksheet). It has been slightly adapted and split into small paragraphs for ease of translation and discussion. The Challenge option asks students to consider traditions at New Year too. Great fun for the students, they're working independently and assimilating cultural knowledge, and really enjoyable to teach! Two games to finish - teacher or student choice! Pictionary on one slide and a Treasure Hunt searching for 15 gold coins and a treasure chest on another. Both designed to link to vocabulary at the start of the lesson!
