Win A Robot World Cup Football Drawing Competition

Win A Robot World Cup Football Drawing Competition

Last week I found a small UK tech company which was giving out great computer prizes and no-one was entering them. I decided to use them to create a drawing competition in my class - after all what is more motivational to a class than a great chance of winning! I used it to share ideas about what makes a great invention. We discussed ideas of what would or would not win - then created our work of art. INVENT THE 2098 WORLD CUP Future Inventors, we have a new challenge for this week. The World Cup is about to start and it got us thinking: what will the 2098 World Cup look like? Flying referees? Virtual stadiums? Techno-vuvuzelas? Submit your ideas and the winner gets a FREE kit and see it become a project on Club Make! We accept ALL ideas: practical, fun to absolutely bonkers. Entering the challenge is super easy: just draw your idea and share it below! They accept submissions until the 24th of June at http://bit.ly/WinARobot.

SPORTS DAY!

SPORTS DAY!

Try having a ‘class’ sports afternoon/morning rather than a more traditional ‘whole school’ approach! Example Timetable: Mon am: Nursery Mon pm: Reception Tues am: Year 1 Tues pm: Year 2 Wed am: Year 3 Wed pm: Year 4 Thurs am: Year 5 Thurs pm: Year 6 I’ve attached a simple but effective programme for sports day that includes 6 different activities. These are: Standing Broad Jump Javelin Sprinting Egg and spoon Quoit Scramble Obstacle course All activities can easily be adapted!! I’ve also included a sports field plan and 3 different group timetables (up to a maximum of 12 in each group). You could order some ‘Ice Pops’ for the children (also integrated into the plan). Good luck!!

Images and questions relate to: shape of drill, skill to be worked on, equipment which will be needed and instructions they will give to their participants. Athletics Results Spreadsheet

Athletics Results Spreadsheet

These two spreadsheets will automatically highlight the box to the gold, silver and bronze standards as set by English Athletics. With the long distance events, please make sure that you put the times in using a colon and not just a full stop. The spreadsheet will not recognise this as a time. Please leave a review to let me know if there is anything I could add/change.

KS3 Athletics Reward Scheme

KS3 Athletics Reward Scheme

An effective assessment tool to motivate students to compete competitively in every athletics event. Certificates or rewards can be given to the students after the lesson to showcase achievements. The scores/timings/distances are in correlation with the ESAA standards. Has helped me with selection of athletics teams as results can be seen easily, I would advise making a spreadsheet to monitor scores/times.

FIFA Player Cards - Very Student Friendly Self/Peer Assessment Tool

FIFA Player Cards - Very Student Friendly Self/Peer Assessment Tool

This is a great resource to engage students with meaningful peer assessment, linked to the hugely popular FIFA player cards I’m sure you have heard of. If not, ask your students! I created this resource as a PE teacher for use in PE, however could be used whole school. I have found this has engaged, boys in particular, into some amazing peer assessment conversations. It’s also a great tool for self assessment and to track progress over time. My students loved using these. My GCSE students used them against their practical assessment criteria, while I created a very loose assessment criteria for my KS3 students to follow and assess themselves. They can obviously be adapted to suit the needs of your subject/lessons/schemes of work. I laminated mine so they can be used come wind, rain or shine! There are so many ways to use the cards and they have increased the quality of student feedback in lesson no end. A great tool to get students to assess with using the word “assessment!”

Wordsearch Puzzle sheet of keywords on the theme of ‘Volleyball’. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!
