This resource has been planned for a 6-week Half-Term. It connects the curriculums for Design Technology, Geography, Art & Design, English, and History.
Children will investigate the Ancient Kingdom of Benin, as outlined in the 2014 National Curriculum of England History standards.
The English units that are included are Narrative Texts (involving elephant hunting), Persuasive Texts (about returning stolen art to modern Nigeria), Information Texts (about poaching), and Explanation Texts (about artistic choices on a commemorative Oba head).
Units are also available separately, lasting for one week each:
Outcome 1: Design the head of an Oba (English, Art, Design Technology)
Outcome 2: Write a persuasive text about returning stolen art from Ancient Benin (English, History, Art)
Outcome 3: Write a Narrative Text about Bravery (English, History)
Outcome 4: Write an Information Text about Elephant Poaching (History, Geography, Science, English)
Outcome 5: Design a Thumb Piano (History, Art, Design Technology, English)
