Research project (Motivational triggers) for KS3/KS4 French AQA - Christmas project

Research project (Motivational triggers) for KS3/KS4 French AQA - Christmas project

This is a research project lesson (or two lessons really) that I created for my KS3/lower KS4 French students. The idea is to promote independent learning via research. Students have to research information about French Christmas, compare the traditions with the ones in Britain and to create a presentation / poster. Students decide on the task, the roles and start researching relevant information using their iPads (one of the students needs to summarise the information that others found). There is also a designer and an analyst (usually the most attaining student in the group. Enjoy!

Message magique: devinette de Noël

Message magique: devinette de Noël

These magic message riddles will serve as instant Christmas cards for your students if you print them on card stock. The riddles resemble QR codes until you raise them to eye level and read the “magical messages” from bottom - indicated by a red number - to top. There are four cards to the page. Decades ago, these things took me forever and a day to draw by hand. But then I could legitimately challenge my students to draw a message of their own. Nowadays, I use the computer so they just take forever. However, I’ve lost the moral authority to launch my drawing challenge. But the “wow” moment when a student actually sees the message still makes it worthwhile.

Are you looking for a different type of Christmas lesson ? This activity includes a 'match up ' of phrases commonly used with board games and a selection of 'positive' and 'less-positive' phrases associated with the festivity period which can then be used by your students to create a board game.

Cadeaux de Noel Vocabulary Hunt

Cadeaux de Noel Vocabulary Hunt

A word exchange activity which requires pupils to translate 20 Christmas gifts from French to English. They attempt it first on their own, then paired up, then they circulate to exchange answers with pupils around the room. This would lead nicely into writing a letter to Father Christmas. I have a template for this available in my Christmas Bundle or on its own- just search in my shop.

Noel-12 days of Christmas

Noel-12 days of Christmas

This presentation explains the perfect tense with avoir and uses Christmas as a theme to introduce 12 sentences with different verbs. It shows how to link them together to create a paragraph. This can be used with students who have not seen the perfect tense before as an introduction, I have used this with year 7 students at the end of their first year or students with some experience of the perfect tense as a revision lesson.
