A Level French - Les techniques cinématographiques - Filming Techniques - Essay

A Level French - Les techniques cinématographiques - Filming Techniques - Essay

This lesson aims to introduce several filming techniques to A Level students in order to prepare them to analyse and comment on a director’s style, in essays. Each plan / filming technique is illustrated with photos, gifs and videos, and all of them have thorough comments in the speaker notes, at the bottom of each slide. Each example comes from famous films and emphasises on the wanted effect on spectators. I am teaching “La Haine” so I also added some slides on how to observe and justify those techniques in the film that we are studying. However, those activities are very easily transferrable to any other film suggested by any exam boards. The full unit of work should last 3-4 lessons.

Card Sort Source Analysis - Was Robespierre a hero or villain?

Card Sort Source Analysis - Was Robespierre a hero or villain?

This innovative and creative activity has been carefully designed to help students assess the role played by the revolutionary leader Robespierre during the period known as the Reign of Terror in the French Revolution. This activity involves giving students ten primary sources and four secondary sources written by historians and sorting them under the headings of hero or villain. Once this has been complete, students can then have a go at answering the question: How far was Robespierre a hero who saved the revolution or a villain who betrayed his own values to take control of France?’ I would recommend that this resource should be used with either a core or advanced group as there is a lot of reading, which would be too much for a foundation group with low literacy skills. If you are looking for something a little easier, I have made a another simpler card sort which just looks at the facts. This can be bought separately. This resource makes a great starter or plenary to completed in pairs or groups. It can be cut up the students or placed into envelopes for use with several classes or even set as a piece of homework. Alternatively, your students could draw a table with the two headings ‘hero’ or ‘villain’ and list the sources under them. The aims and objectives are: Theme: The reign of Terror Know: What sort of man was Robespierre? Understand: Why are historical events interpreted in different ways? Evaluate: Was Robespierre a hero who saved the revolution or a villain who betrayed his own values to take control of France? WILF - What Am I Looking For? Identify and describe: Which sources support / disagree with Robespierre being a ‘hero’ or ‘villian’? Explain: Why were Robespierre’s actions controversial? Analyse: Was Robespierre a hero who saved the revolution or a villain who betrayed his own values to take control of France? If you like this resource then why not check out my other resources on this topic in my TES shop, where many have been bundled together to provide you with further savings. Game AQA 11, speaking, grammar, translation resources on "Me, my family and friends" and "Technolo".

This resource is just perfect to spice up things in the classroom with your year 11! I put a selection of speaking questions, grammar and translations in a game format, all colour coded with an extra blank sheet for the answers. Students will need a dice or pick a colour with their eyes shut or maybe put their finger on the sheet, be imaginative regarding how you wish to do this! I may allocate numbers to my students: You answer 1-5, your partner answers 6-10 etc… The dice will be the best option to make the lesson entertaining! My games (4 different ones) cover two sections: Me, my family and friends and Technology. All the answers are in the book! I hope you will love this resource! It took me quite a long time to put it together!

MFL Writing and Speaking Feedback Grid

MFL Writing and Speaking Feedback Grid

I have created this Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 writing and speaking marking feedback grid for the new AQA 9-1 GCSE and use it with general or assessed pieces of French, German and Spanish work. The grid is linked to a progress ladder that we use in school, which shows the elements students are required to include to progress from grades 1-9 in the two skills in these subjects. My school has been using it since October and I have found that it has really sped up my marking time. I circle elements that students haven’t included and they must refer back to it before completing their next piece of written or spoken work. I also insist that my students learn these elements by heart in order and they have done this, which is definitely helping with an improvement in grades. Hopefully it’s useful to you all as well!

Exemple de présentation orale IRP (Individual Research Project)

Exemple de présentation orale IRP (Individual Research Project)

Example of an IRP presentation for the speaking A-level exams. Great to give students before they write their own to guide them and show them how we can use high structures and facts in a concise presentation. Students assess the presentations and can discuss in pair and in class with the teacher.

ICT project - my town/holiday - GCSE

ICT project - my town/holiday - GCSE

Great online project to do in class time or as homework for student to use all the vocab from “My Town” unit in GCSE. Could be linked with the topic of holiday too. Students have to plan an exchange in France and have to go through a series of 10 questions to build up their project. They can present it to the class, send it online or print it. Excellent for independent learning and cultural knowledge as they have to research information on a French town.
