#### Royal Wedding Maths Lesson

**L.O: **I can apply my mathematics skills to practical problem solving. S.C I can choose the perfect wedding venue using my knowledge of area and perimeter. I can find the correct measurements for the wedding cake using my knowledge of shapes I can select the cheapest option out of two given options. I can apply all my mathematical skills effectively. I can present my work at a high standard. I can work effectively and collaboratively in a group. Curriculum Links: Number: • Solve number and practical problems that recognising numbers, addition, multiplication and division. • Solve addition and subtraction multi-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why. Geometry: • Illustrate and name parts of circles, including radius, diameter and circumference and know that the diameter is twice the radius. • To be able to work out the perimeter, area, circumpherence, diameter and the volume of shapes. Ratio and proportion: • Solve problems involving unequal sharing and grouping using knowledge of fractions and multiples. Following the latest news report that Meghan Markle’s dad has had to pull out of the wedding, I have created a maths lesson for Year 6. As their SATs are finished it would be nice for them to start project like activites. This puts the pupils in place of the wedding planner meaning that they have to use a range of mathematical skills. They work in groups and give a formal presentation at the end explaining their working out and the reasons for making the choices they have. They will do this lesson Friday so there is an emphasis of there only being one day left so they have to work quickly and efficiently. I hope you enjoy this! I have attached a detailed lesson plan which makes everything clear.

#### Fortnite Bearings Fun

If you haven’t heard your students talking about Fortnite then where have you been? 45 million people play the shooter game Fortnite and I can’t stop the kids I teach from talking about it. This activity incorporates lots of different concepts: Ratios/Scales Bearings Speed, distance, time Pythagoras Area problem solving Edit and remove questions as you want. If you print at 100% the scale will be 1.5cm to 250m Otherwise you might have to give it a measure if you print to fit Also: The locations from the bearings are locations required for one of the challenges this season to get them even more engaged. Half my class have taken the work home to finish so they can gain in game rewards

#### Perimeter of Compound Shapes Activity

This activity is differentiated by task and there are additional aids that can be printed to differentiate further or offer scaffolding. Pupils can complete this individually or in pairs. ***Answers are provided **- questions 8 onwards are open-ended questions that have multiple answers, so need to be either checked by the teach or peers. The activity can be shown on a board or used as a worksheet that is handed out. This task is designed to challenge students of differing ability and provide teachers with a great resource that help reduce their planning, whilst creating interesting and productive lessons that have progress.

#### Y5/6 Shape Questions (taken from SAT papers, disguised to like classroom task!)

9 Word documents linked to Year 5/6 Shape NC. Questions are taken from past SATs papers, but ‘dressed up’ to be used in normal lessons. I’ve found them particularly useful, as they prepare Y6 for SAT questions gradually without them realising! Included: -2D Features -3D Shapes -Angles -Unknown Angles -Area -Perimeter -Volume -Measurement Conversions -Time -(answers to all questions are at the end of each document) (photo included is of these tasks used by my own class)

#### Year 5 / 6 Maths games and activities

In this bundle are a range of maths activities which cover math objectives from the U.K curriculum for Year’s 5 and 6.

#### Horse racing- themed challenge on perimeter, area and volume (Upper KS2 / Lower KS3)

This is a challenging activity where children must use their problem solving and reasoning skills to solve perimeter, area and volume questions. It worked exceptionally well with my Y5 class and the horse racing theme really inspired the children! This activity works best over a whole lesson and I like to put the children into mixed ability groups. Some of the questions are quite challenging (although it doesn’t deviate from the national curriculum in anyway) which makes it ideal for Y5 and 6 children; it could also be used in a lower KS3 setting as a fun way to recap on perimeter, area and volume. This pack includes the activity, a question sheet and a powerpoint which not only gives the correct answers but explains each step visually for the children - this makes it ideal for the children to self-assess and provide on-the-spot feedback to the whole class once the activity has been completed. I’d be grateful if you could review the resources and please see my shop for other resources: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1

#### Y3 Shape, Length & Perimeter, and Time Bundle

#### Geometry Project

This is a geometry project for you to teach your students. This really fits in with when you are studying geometry. This project is best used as homework as this is how the booklet has been structured. Feel free to edit in any way you want to. Also as some of instructions in the booklet might not fit your teaching schedule you may wish to edit out those parts. This project is designed for Ks3 students in about a middle set. It is a great homework activity and can last for up to 4/5 weeks if extended. Also i have called it a Term 5 Booklet but please edit this so that it fits what term you are doing it in. Please leave any comments in the comments box so i know how it was or how to improve it.

#### GCSE Maths /Functional Skills-Revision Clock-Area-Perimeter of Rectangles and Triangles

GCSE Foundation Maths/Functional Skills 12 questions on perimeter and area of rectangles and triangles that learners answer on a clock face. I set a timer of 30 minutes for the activity, learners have to complete their revision clocks in that time limit. I print the questions out on A4 paper and the blank clocks out on A3 paper. The learners pair up and answer the questions. Works well for revision. Clock Template included. I usually put the clock face up on IWB and get learners to write their answers and methods in at various points through the 30 minutes.
