#### AQA Triology Physics Paper 1 revision mat

For GCSE students taking the AQA Triology Exam. Physics Paper 1. Revision mat covers a range of topics including calculating energy, ionising radiation, calculating half life, atomic structure, mains electricity and circuit symbols.

#### Introduction to waves

Teacher lead lesson which can be tailored to be used with student research. Easily delivered to KS3 or KS4. Introduces students to the topics of waves. Describes the motions and uses animated diagrams to show the difference in the direction the energy travels. Animation also included to show how only wave moves but the object does not. Clear examples of labeling wave diagrams including wavelength and amplitude. Followed by practice to test student’s understanding. Word match activity to ensure understanding of key terminology. Answers provided. Plenary is exam style questions for lower and higher tier. Answers provided.

P3.1 Energy demand (found in Energy resources chapter), created based on the AQA GCSE Physics Triology spec. PowerPoint and excel file containing the whole lesson. Including: Spider diagram and list of energy resource. Definitions for fossil fuels, renewable and non-renewable. Categorising of energy resources as renewable or non-renewable. World energy resource demand/usage data (Pie chart). Mini-plenary card-sort to test the above. Card sort with some advantages and disadvantages of each energy resource. All answers for tasks in the PowerPoint are either in the notes section below the slide or on the next slide.

Starter: Explain what energy efficient light bulbs are. The lesson then covers: Efficiency Efficiency equation - including model answer and practice questions Dissipation of energy Reducing waste energy All tasks are differentiated by input as challenges 1-3 which students can self-select or be directed to. Extension tasks are also included on the slides. Stretch and challenge question also included. Worksheets needed: CP3b.3 and CP3b.4 Written in conjunction with Pearsons Edexcel Combined Science text book (although the content can be used with any exam board).

#### Activity and half life - Complete lesson (GCSE 1-9)

A full lesson based on the new AQA (P7.5) SOW but can be used for others. The lesson covers activity, count rate and the Geiger counter. Students are then taught how to calculate half life from a graph using examples. A worksheet is then completed (taken from another TES author). Students then complete a simple practical to model half life; they roll small cubes (or dice) and take the cubes that land silver side up (or on the number 1) out of play. Students plot a graph and answer questions relating to the practical. There is then a final grid challenge that students can use to assess their progress against the learning objectives. All answers are incorporated into the sides, timers are used to promote pace. Video used and radiation sickness discussed in order to incite interest.
