British International School - Ho Chi Minh City
About British International School - Ho Chi Minh City
The British International School, Ho Chi Minh City is a selective, independent, co-educational day school providing a British style curriculum for an international student body. It is the largest international school in Vietnam and one of the leading international schools in South East Asia. The school operates from three purpose-built, modern campus sites in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). One primary campus is located in District 3 of the city whilst a second primary campus and a dedicated secondary campus are located in the quiet suburban, residential area of An Phu. Both primary campuses cater for students from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to Year 6 and the secondary campus caters for students from Years 7 to 13.
All of the school campuses have excellent facilities – large libraries, music suites, computer suites, indoor 25m swimming pools, large sports halls and grass playing fields. The secondary campus in particular has excellent specialist facilities including an auditorium, a theatre, science laboratories, drama studio, dance studio, music technology suite, art suite and design technology facilities. The two Early Years Foundation Stage units have their own mini pools, sand pits, dedicated playgrounds and climbing apparatus.
There are currently more than 160 full time teachers, the large majority of whom are British qualified and trained with recent UK experience. All EYFS and primary teaching classes have English speaking Vietnamese teaching assistants, some of whom are qualified teachers in their own right. Each of the three campuses has its own Head Teacher and at least one Deputy Head Teacher.
At both the Tu Xuong and An Phu Primary campuses we offer a play base curriculum planned around the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework from the UK for children aged 2 – 4. The main emphasis is on providing a secure and nurturing environment for all children to develop individually and at their own pace.
From Year 1 to Year 6 the children follow the National Curriculum for England to provide a broad, balanced and relevant learning experience designed to meet the wide ranging needs of its students. The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is used to place the primary curriculum into an international context.
The secondary campus follows the National Curriculum for England at Key Stage 3 before students select from a wide range of subjects to study for IGCSE examinations. The school offers the IB Diploma Programme to sixth form students as a first class preparation for entry to universities around the world.
