About City of Westminster College
City of Westminster College offers around 250 full and part-time courses to over 7,000 students each year in the centre of London. Our staff are well qualified and experienced and our aim is to provide learners with high quality education and training programmes to help them with their careers or to access higher level courses at our College or university. We also endeavour to make learners’ time at City of Westminster College socially as well as educationally enriching by providing a range of services to help them make the most of college life.
We are passionate about offering the best possible education and training opportunities so that learners can achieve their personal and professional goals and we are constantly improving and developing our offer and services. We have provided these services to many thousands of students for over 100 years and many students have changed their lives by enrolling at City of Westminster College.
City of Westminster College can trace its history as a distinct organisation back to September 1903, when we started life as Paddington Technical Institute, at Saltram Crescent, until 1967, when, together with Paddington Green, it became Paddington Technical College, and from 1984, Paddington College. When the Inner London Education Authority was abolished in March 1990 the College was governed by Westminster City Council. It was then that we took our present name - City of Westminster College. On 1st April 1993 City of Westminster College became an incorporated and self-governing organisation, occupying a number of buildings in the borough of Westminster. Currently the College operates from five different sites: Paddington Basin Campus, (a temporary site in use until our new college building project is complete at our Paddington Green Centre), Queens Park Centre, Maida Vale Centre, Cosway Street Centre and our Cockpit theatre.
NEW COLLEGE BUILDING PROJECT
City of Westminster College is taking forward an ambitious scheme for the redevelopment of its Paddington Green site to create an £85m world-class new 'state-of-the-art' campus in the heart of Westminster, with cutting-edge facilities to support the College's extensive and growing range of vocational and academic courses. In July 2006, after a RIBA-backed competition, the College appointed award-winning Danish architects schmidt hammer lassen to design the new building, which features a large atrium at the heart of the scheme and public access areas including a theatre and café. The College's brief was for high quality architecture and sustainability in a building that takes full advantage of a key location in the borough of Westminster.
