About The Deanery Church of England High School and Sixth Form College
Who are We?
We are a large Church of England High School, part of the Diocese of Liverpool. There has been a school on the current site in Frog Lane for over 70 years, beginning with the creation of All Saints’ School which later became Deanery C.E. High School. We continue to be one of the most sought-after schools in the borough and enjoy an excellent reputation across the town. We have over 1300 students on our roll, including around 150 in our Sixth Form (we are currently in the top two Wigan post-16 providers.) Our last Ofsted inspection was in September 2016, where we were graded “good” in all areas, including the Sixth Form. October 2017 saw the official opening of our brand new, state of the art building by Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester. Classrooms are arranged in faculty areas around the school, with each teacher having a spacious classroom to make his or her own. We have close links across the town and our students enjoy the facilities offered by Wigan Youth Zone (a local community/sporting facility) and Robin Park (where they attend outdoor PE and Games lessons.) Our values are firmly rooted in our faith – Trust, Respect, Forgiveness, Compassion and Peace. We want our children to flourish and develop into decent, well-disciplined, well-educated and employable adults.
What about our Staff?
We have around 160 staff in total who are pivotal to our success. The team is welcoming and friendly; we have a Staff Well-Being Group who regularly meet to discuss ideas about how we can support each other and make sure that our staff are well looked after. We look to recruit people who have the right attitude and share our values. If you have a love for teaching and are passionate about seeing children succeed, we can help you do the rest. We can offer support, which focuses on the quality of teaching and learning, curriculum development and all aspects of Leadership and Management.
Where are We?
Wigan is conveniently located between Manchester and Liverpool, both cities being less than an hour’s drive away. The town lies at the heart of the regional motorway network, which affords quick and easy access to the rest of the UK via an extensive road network. Its rail links are exceptional. We are only a 30-minute drive away from Warrington, Bolton and Leigh. The school itself is situated in the heart of Wigan town centre, directly opposite the bus station and only a 10-minute walk away from both main railway stations.
