About The Streetly Academy

“This School is Outstanding” – OFSTED Report – January 2013   The Streetly Academy is an over-subscribed, 11-19 school with Sports College Status. Students join us from Streetly and bordering areas of Birmingham. Attainment on entry is in line with the national averages. There are currently 1390 students on roll with 149 in the Sixth Form.   In January 2013, the school became the first school in the UK under the new OFSTED framework to move from a “Satisfactory” judgement to “Outstanding” in a single 3 year cycle. In this year the school also became the only school in the UK to ever receive 2 Pearson Teaching Awards in one year (Headteacher of the Year & Outstanding School Team of The Year).   Over the past 5 years, The Streetly Academy has achieved outstanding results, breaking all historical records for the school.  Our performance is consistently good and robust against significant national policy change.    We have a growing national and international reputation for our innovative use of technologies and anytime, anywhere learning.  This is a distinguishing feature of the academy, with our learning platform, Frog, for which we are an International Demonstration School, offering outstanding communications, networking, and learning opportunities to our students, staff, parents and carers. All teaching staff are equipped with high-end, latest model laptops or Chromebooks. Equally, every student in the school is equipped with a Google Chromebook, the largest such scheme in the United Kingdom.   Streetly has gained an international reputation for its work in PE and Sport.  As a result of this work, our Headteacher, Billy Downie, was appointed a Director on the Youth Sport Trust Board, chaired by Baroness Sue Campbell.  We value sport at the heart of our curriculum and school values and, equally, we are proud of our Sports College status which has impacted on whole school curriculum development, our academy values, and extensive links with Primary schools. Using our specialism as a platform, Streetly was an official London 2012 Olympic Partner School and is now a lead partner Gold Status School with the Youth Sport Trust, recognised for our extensive work in using Sport and the values of sport to drive school improvement, and raise achievement.  In 2013, Streetly won the prestigious UK Sports College of the Year Award from the Youth Sport Trust for Innovation and Achievement.   Extra curricular activities are also one of our strengths, not only in Sport but also in Music, Drama and Duke of Edinburgh, being the largest D of E school provider in the region.    Pastorally, students are organised in year groups and are also members of one of five houses.  This has improved pastoral staff impact on raising academic achievement. Students are taught in mixed ability groups in Foundation subjects and are set according to ability in Core subjects, MFL and PE.    The academy has a large and very well maintained site. The majority of buildings date from the 1960s, but these have been enhanced through a new three-storey block with Sixth Form centre and excellent sports facilities including new Sports Hall, Dance studio, Fitness Suite and all-weather pitches. In 2016, we became the first school in the UK to install Padel Tennis courts.  Also, we are proud to be a resource base for physically disabled students.        BRı
