About Tolleshunt D'Arcy St Nicholas Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School

Our school ethos is founded upon:

• belief that all members of the school community are valued
• an appreciation of the love and wonder of God
• respect and care for others
• a culture of high achievement and encouragement
• daily collective worship within a Christian tradition
• respect for other cultures and faiths
• an appreciation of equal opportunities for all

Religious Education at the school is in accordance with the Diocesan syllabus for Aided Schools and pupils are normally expected to participate fully in the Religious Education and Worship within the school.

We foster strong partnerships with parents to enable every child to have a successful learning journey through the school and encourage parents to become actively involved in the learning opportunities that we offer.

Pastoral care and discipline

Our pastoral approach is based on the Christian ethos of love and care. We aim to ensure that every child feels safe and cared for. This includes close links with families who are encouraged to work beside us. Staff and governors encourage this and seek the support of parents in fostering this approach.

We try to ensure that the education of all pupils develops in personal, social, academic and spiritual dimensions. It involves ensuring that the school is aware of the child’s needs, feelings and circumstances and opportunities are provided for pupils to share any worries with any teacher. Pastoral care helps to develop self discipline and behaviour within a supportive environment. It ensures a child develops a strong state of responsibility, self discipline, care and tolerance for the views of other people.
