Job overview

Unlocking the potential of every student and employee by providing a truly outstanding education

Located 30 traffic-free minutes away from the centre of Newcastle, we are situated in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK, including the historic village of Warkworth and its castle to the north, the picturesque fishing village of Amble, and an area of outstanding national beauty at Druridge Bay

James Calvert Spence College is situated in a beautiful coastal town in Northumberland and is a 9-19 through school, catering for students from Year 5 to Year 13.

We are looking for an innovative and outstanding leader to drive substantial change within our improving school. Whether your background is primary, middle or secondary – if you have the right skillset and a determination to improve the lives of our students, we would love to hear from you.

We are an improving school with 2018 KS2 and GCSE results showing a significant improvement in attainment and progress, and attendance last year above the national average. We’re looking for the right person to work within our close Executive Leadership Team to maintain this momentum and help drive further improvement to make our school the very best it can be for our community.

Our Assistant Headteacher Diversity will be our SENDCo, but will also lead on raising attainment for other groups of students across the school, working alongside senior colleagues to ensure that curriculum provision and the quality of teaching, learning and support is optimised for disadvantaged students, LAC, EAL or whichever groups of students are identified to require additional guidance.

On a day-to-day basis you will provide professional direction and management for the college and your inspirational leadership will engage and inspire staff, pupils and the local community. You will provide success and improvement, ensuring high quality education for all students and improved standards of learning, progress and attainment.

The exact role and responsibilities will be determined by the strengths of the successful candidate, and agreed with the Executive Headteacher.

You will:

· Have proven outstanding leadership skills in primary or secondary phases

· Be a qualified SENDCo, or willing to undertake the appropriate training

  • Be a strong classroom practitioner, keen to develop your own skills further
  • Be a positive role model
  • Have high expectations of yourself and others
  • Be someone with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Be  passionate about improving the life chances of our students

We can offer you:

  • Excellent opportunities for professional development, including nationally accredited leadership training delivered by our Assistant Headteacher
  • A well-resourced curriculum
  • Hardworking and well behaved pupils who want to learn
  • A friendly and supportive working environment with a dedicated staff team of hardworking colleagues

To apply, please include a letter of application (no more than 2 sides of A4) which outlines examples of your experience in leading change and how you feel this would benefit JCSC as it moves into its next exciting phase.

Completed applications should be submitted to Carole Hutchinson, Assistant to the Executive Headteacher, at James Calvert Spence College, Acklington Road, Amble, Northumberland NE65 0ND. (chutchinson01@jcsc.co.uk).

If you wish to find out more about our school, or to arrange a visit or an informal chat about the post, please contact Executive Headteacher, Neil Rodgers via nrodgers01@jcsc.co.uk
