Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Business Manager to join us in this key non-educational role focused on the successful continued growth, development and day to day running of this highly regarded independent, selective, co-educational day school in rural Leicestershire whose last full ISI inspection was awarded Excellent. We are seeking an experienced manager with a proven track record in broad leadership roles which should include responsibility for Finance, IT and business administration. Some experience of estates management would also be advantageous.

Reporting directly to the Headmaster, the Business Manager leads and manages the Finance, IT and Facilities departments and as a member of the SLT will work with the Headmaster and senior colleagues to formulate the School’s Development Strategy. The Business Manager also works closely with the Governors and attends regular meetings with the Chair of the Finance, Facilities and People (FFP) Committee.

The Business Manager will be a strong leader and positive team player who is able to work effectively with a wide range of people and has experience of successfully managing teams. The ability to motivate, appropriately challenge and influence a range of stakeholders in a collaborative, team based environment and to think strategically is essential.

Previous experience in a school would be useful but is not essential. However candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to education and an appreciation of the particular demands of working in the education sector.

The school is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all candidates, staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this role will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks being completed and an enhanced DBS clearance. Shortlisted applicants will be required to complete a self-declaration of any criminal records or information which might make them unsuitable to work with children.

The School is being assisted in the recruitment of this key position by ISBA recruitment. Please complete the attached Dixie Application Form (please note that CV applications will not be accepted) which should be sent together with a covering letter clearly indicating that you are applying for this position to: recruiting@theisba.org.uk. Alternatively, if you have any queries, please contact our ISBA consultants Lucy Wyatt on 07817 038009 or John Murphy on 07801 545872.

Welcome to The Dixie Grammar School

Our teachers are highly motivated and gifted individuals who are able to inspire pupils with their enthusiasm and subject knowledge. They are committed to high quality teaching and participate in the extensive co-curricular programme. Most are graduates with postgraduate certificates.

Those who join us without PGCEs are supported to gain the qualifications soon after appointment. Training and professional development programmes are established, and we are experienced in managing Newly Qualified Teachers.

Our staff are both ECTs and experienced teachers; providing a stimulating and rewarding environment.

All staff are given access to an employee assistance programme the benefits of which are extensive and include immediate families.  The Dixie Grammar School Pay scale is above the maintained sector pay scale and children of staff enjoy a significant reduction in tuition fees.

We are proud of our focus on developing colleagues as well as students. We have a high level of staff retention with staff typically remaining at the Dixie for a number of years and some for their whole careers. We also have many examples of teachers who have successfully moved into more senior roles at the Dixie and also some who have moved on to take promoted posts in similar schools.

Our high standards and high expectations of all at the Dixie are seen in all we do. Interaction between all in our community is built on our newly-emphasised values - Respect, Resilience, Courage, Commitment and Care; from the Chair of Governors to our youngest in Pippins, between teaching staff, support staff and students, we aim for our dealings with each other to be characterised by these values.
