Surbiton High School seeks  an enthusiastic and inspirational  Careers Officer with a 'can do' attitude, to support our pupils and provide administrative support to  the Careers Department.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Administration of career, higher education and related events, trips and activities
  • Timetabling the career interviews for Years 11 and 12 and distributing the career notes
  • Assisting with PSHE sessions with students (potential to lead some if desired and appropriate)
  • Supporting career interviews, including delivering where appropriate
  • Managing the Careers Library and all information within it
  • Electronically collating Labour Market Information received and managing the distribution of this to the appropriate students
  • Producing a regular Careers/HE newsletter
  • Updating Career noticeboards
  • Providing administrative support to our Oxbridge Programme
  • Providing administrative support to our Work Experience Programme
  • Providing administrative support for Activity Week
  • Potential to take on responsibility for the delivery of career education in one or more year groups
  • Where possible, support careers and higher education events outside of normal School hours on occasion
  • Carrying out any such duties as may be reasonably requested


 

The successful candidate will be likely to fit the following profile: 


  • An undergraduate degree would be an advantage, but not essential
  • A qualification in career guidance (useful but not essential). Training may be available to allow candidates to achieve recognised careers qualifications
  • IT proficient - MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Excellent organisational, written, administrative,  and ICT skills
  • High levels of personal and professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
  • Understanding of the careers and higher education sector would be an advantage, but not essential
  • Understanding of ambitious and academically able students and their parents
  • Personal warmth to gain the confidence of pupils, staff and parents
  • High standards of personal presence and presentation and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate concisely and sensitively, both orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences
  • A healthy sense of humour
  • A team player with leadership qualities
  • Organised and able to self-direct
  • Positive, enthusiastic and energetic approach to life, with a can-do attitude
  • Committed to Surbiton High School’s ethos and strategic vision
  • Committed to professional development and show a willingness to undertake appropriate training for this role

The School has a clearly developed leadership structure, offering extensive opportunities for career development and progression, including Heads of Department (Including Deputies) and Heads of Year (including Deputies) as well as Co-ordinators with specific responsibilities such as: Gifted and Talented, Oxbridge, Duke of Edinburgh and Expeditions.

Surbiton High School has approximately 1495 pupils aged between 4 and 18. Our Preparatory Schools are divided into the Girls’ Preparatory School and Boys’ Preparatory School, and the Senior School is girls only from age 11 upwards.
