We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our Facilities Team as an afternoon Caretaker. 


Start Date: ASAP


Hours of Work: Part-time 2.00pm to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks per annum with the possibility of reduced, flexible hours in school holiday periods. The school will consider applications on a term-time basis (38 weeks per annum).


The Main Purpose of the Post:

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Caretaker (Afternoon) will work as part of a team with the Caretaker (Morning) to carry out a range of duties to ensure safety, security, maintenance and cleanliness of the site and premises. In addition, they will improve, maintain and care for the school’s facilities. Other duties and responsibilities include, but not are limited to:

  • Undertake general repairs and maintenance around the establishment, inside and out, including decorating, basic plumbing, carpentry and repairs to ensure the site is a safe environment for pupils, teachers and visitors.
  • Advise the Facilities Manager  of faults to the buildings, fixtures and fittings which require specialist attention. 
  • Carry out regular Health and Safety checks as directed, reporting any issues to the Facilities Manager to ensure compliance with legal requirements. 
  • Assist in the monitoring of the facilities and services to ensure they are kept running on a day to day basis to meet the establishments needs. 
  • Maintain the security of the site by closing premises (in liaison with the cleaning contractors), repairing doors, latches and fences to maintain a safe environment.  
  • Assist in the preparation of stage props, staging installation and set-up for School productions where required. 
  • Provide a portering service for deliveries to ensure supplies are correctly handled and appropriately delivered. 
  • Assist at special events i.e. Speech Day, Open Morning and Carol Services; some of these are outside of core working hours. 
  • To undertake trips in the School minibus when required & undertake necessary training. To be on call for the morning minibus run in case of need. 
  • Assist in the general cleaning of the premises i.e. mopping, sweeping or hoovering floors, cleaning toilets, to ensure a tidy appearance is maintained, outside of the contract cleaning hours. 
  • Support contractors undertaking works on site as required and ensure that they undertake works in a safe manner in accordance with the School’s Health and Safety Policy. 
  • Ensure the school timetable is supported by setting up and clearing for regular and ad-hoc school events such as lunchtimes, assemblies, PE lessons, visiting speakers etc.
