Class Teacher, Toronto Primary School, 35 hours per week, closing date 20th January 2019

Toronto Primary School is a non-denominational school serving the community of Howden in Livingston. It is part of the Inveralmond Community High School cluster. The school roll is 265 with pupils being organised into twelve classes (P1-7) in addition to a 30/30 nursery. The school building includes a very well used community wing which is utilised effectively by a variety of groups.

The senior leadership team comprises of a head teacher, depute head teacher and a principal teacher (acting). In addition to thirteen class teachers, there is a team of pupil support workers, a support for learning teacher, nurture teacher and specialist provision for physical education. The school office is staffed by an administrative assistant and a clerical assistant.

All pupils have access to a very successful Breakfast Club which is well attended. A variety of sports clubs are available out-with the school day throughout the year.

Toronto Primary School is well supported by the parent council and the wider parent forum. The parent council works in close partnership with the school and provides support in identifying areas for improvement. There are supportive partnerships with local community groups.

This year, the priority for improvement is to raise attainment for all and achieve equity. The specific areas for development in session 2018-19 include:

moderation and assessment processes
improving writing
full implementation of the positive relationships policy

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  Successful candidates will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment and the cost will be met by the candidate.

 The fee for a Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59 or Existing Member is £18. The £59 cost (where appropriate) will be deducted from your salary over a 1 or 3 month period by repayment schedule.  If your employment concludes before the amount is re-paid in full, the outstanding balance will be deducted from your final salary
