Job overview

This is a significant role in the Department for Education and for the Diocese as a whole.  Education represents one of the most important aspects of the mission of the Church.  It is an essential role in ensuring excellent standards of teaching and learning throughout the diocesan family of schools and colleges by providing appropriate support and challenge to MAT directors, governors, senior and executive leaders and all those who work in our schools in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.  Therefore, the Diocese of Salford is seeking to recruit an exceptional individual to assist in the future development of the Department for Education.  This Department is responsible for the implementation of the Diocesan vision and strategy for Catholic schools and colleges, providing effective leadership and professional advice to support the statutory and canonical work of the Bishop and Diocesan Trustees.  

The successful candidate, will be a permanent, full-time member of the Department for Education and will participate in the general responsibilities of this Department.  They will have specific responsibilities which may change from time to time, however, it is envisaged that this post holder will have specific responsibility for school system development and improvement in Diocesan schools and colleges.  

The successful post holder must have:

  • A strong personal faith and be a committed, practising Roman Catholic.
  • An excellent knowledge of Catholic Education and Catholic Teachings on Education.
  • Very substantial experience as a successful senior executive leader in an educational context and a very good understanding of Local Authority and national government structures and responsibilities for schools and colleges.
  • The ability to provide effective support and challenge for schools as they quickly respond to current and emerging needs.

Travel around the Diocese will be necessary and the post holder will have access to their own vehicle for which essential user mileage will be paid. The nature of the duties of the successful candidate are such that it will inevitably on occasion be necessary to work outside office hours as the demands of the role require.
