Job overview

St Thomas Aquinas College is a small traditional Catholic school with students from Foundation to Year 12. The College campus is located in Tynong, about one hour’s drive South East of Melbourne.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, experienced and motivated professionals for the position of Deputy Principal.

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervision and co-ordination of the work of senior curriculum or subject coordinators

  • Allocation of budgets, positions of responsibility and other resources within the area of responsibility

  • Supervision of the delivery of teaching programs

  • Management of programs to improve the knowledge and experience of teaching staff

  • Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers and Deans

  • Contribute to the overall management of the school

  • The selection/assigning of staff to positions of responsibility

  • Prepares Policy documentation as directed by Government and State Legislation

  • The appraisal of the work of subject coordinators

  • Responsibility for decisions relating to employment of short-term replacement teachers

  • Development and management of the school code of conduct

  • Selection of Deans and subject coordinators

  • Appraisal of the work of year level coordinators

About St Thomas Aquinas College

St Thomas Aquinas College is an independent Catholic all-through school teaching pupils from prep to Year 12. It is situated in the town of Tynong in West Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. Around 300 pupils are enrolled at the school with teaching staff numbering about 40. The college officially opened its doors in 1997, with Dominican nuns and Priests of the Society of St Pius X among the school's educators.

In addition to the school's learning spaces and playgrounds, there is a library, on-site uniform shop and sports grounds, where pupils can participate in soccer, rugby league, netball, tennis, cricket, athletics and many other sports.

A number of clubs and activities are provided by the college. These include dance, arts and crafts, creative writing, a Christian group, and an International Student Exchange.

Curriculum

St Thomas Aquinas College offers a mainly academic subject based education in line with the Victorian Curriculum. This is enriched by the school's religious education in accordance with the teachings of the bible. Registered as a Cambridge International Examination Centre, the college offers IGCSE studies for students in Years 9 and 10, and VCE subjects offered for Year 11 and 12 students.
