Sherborne Girls is seeking to appoint a graduate with an interest in working with young people, to join the school as a Graduate Assistant for the academic year 2023-24. The successful applicant will have played sport at University level or higher and be able to assist with coaching.

The job is designed to give an opportunity to gain experience of living and working in a boarding school environment, perhaps prior to embarking on a PGCE, or to taking up a full-teaching position. It will also include an opportunity to participate in a coach mentoring and development programme.

The principal role of the Graduate Assistant will be to contribute to the coaching of sport in the School. This will be moulded to suit the needs of the School and the skills of the successful candidate, however, there will be opportunities to engage in any aspects of School life in which the Graduate Assistant has an interest.

Free, self-contained accommodation in a boarding house is available and will include free meals during term time. In return for accommodation there will be some associated boarding and tutoring duties.

The role will include:

Participating in, assisting with and leading classes in your specialist sport/s.

Involvement with the Saturday afternoon fixtures programme.

Organising and supervising allocated co-curricular activities as part of the wider sports programme.

Enthusiasm, self-motivation and commitment are essential qualities for the role.

Sherborne Girls is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18, located in the market town of Sherborne, Dorset. Established in 1899, this selective institution has around 490 pupils, the majority of whom are full boarders.

Sherborne Girls operates in partnership with Sherborne School (for boys) and Sherborne Preparatory School, both of which are situated nearby. The three schools work closely together and occasionally offer shared teaching in some subjects.
