The Governors of Thorpe House School invite applications for the role of Head from January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position offers the opportunity for a strong, empathetic and energetic leader to progress the development of the school through inspirational and positive leadership of the highest quality.

Founded in 1923, Thorpe House School is a thriving boys’ independent day school located in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. We offer a bespoke learning experience to 300 boys from Reception through to completion of GCSE examinations, and the Board has aspirations to develop a Sixth Form over the next two years.

Thorpe House has a strong academic performance record, and pupils secure places to continue their education at Dr Challoner’s, RGS High Wycombe, John Lyon, Chesham Grammar and John Hampden Grammar Schools. The school has a commitment to providing outstanding pastoral care, ensuring boys flourish and thrive as confident learners.

The Governors are looking to appoint a Head who:

  • has vision and energy to secure the full engagement of staff, pupils and parents in the clear delivery of the school’s strategic aims and direction;
  • has the ability to advocate, nurture, and sustain a curriculum which provides for imagination and intellectual fulfilment;
  • will provide strong and effective leadership to the whole school community, sustaining the school’s core values of kindness, compassion, respect, politeness and resilience;
  • has strong leadership skills in terms of people management, communication and listening skills.

Thorpe House School is an all-through independent school in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, teaching boys aged 4-16. The Lower School (up to Year 5) operates on its own site and the Middle School (Years 6 to 8) and the Upper School (Years 9 to 11) are based on the main site.  The school has excellent facilities including a seven-acre games field, covered swimming pool and a new multi-purpose hall offering additional classroom space and increased indoor sporting opportunities.
