Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and talented individual to become our new Head of Mathematics.

The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational Church-in-Wales High School. Located in the heart of Llandaff, the school is heavily oversubscribed and students attend from all over the city and in the surrounding authorities. Standards at the school are very high. In 2018, the school achieved outstanding examination results at both GCSE and A Level. At GCSE, 92% of students gained 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE, with 82% including English Language and mathematics; 43% of students achieved 5 or more A*-A grades, while more than a third of students achieved 9 or more A*-A grades. The pass rate at A Level was 99%, with 86% gaining A*-C and 68% at A*-B and 34% of all grades at A*-A. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work!

The mathematics department has a very strong mix of teachers at different stages at their careers. All staff within the team are very strong and provide students with outstanding support to achieve high outcomes. Within the leadership of mathematics, there is currently two co-2nd in mathematics; along with a lead practitioner who is responsible for focused support at key stage 4, as well as a whole school coaching role. We believe this role would be suited to an ambitious individual with appropriate teaching experience, either looking for their first head of department post or an existing middle leader searching for a similar role in a new context. The appointed person would receive our outstanding professional development programme to help prepare them for further promotion within the next two-three years.

Closing date for applications: 14th February 2019 at 12 noon.

* Equivalent to UPR3 and TLR1 (However, a further recruitment allowance of £3,000 may be available for an existing Head of Maths who has demonstrated exceptional outcomes)
