Head of Maths Department

Buller High School, located in the West Coast Region of the South Island is looking for an exceptional mathematics teacher with experience at senior levels, to take on the permanent position of Head of Department Mathematics, from the end of January 2019. 

Buller High School is located in the rural community of Westport. It is a co-educational school that serves all towns within the Buller district, with a role size of about 350 students.

You will be leading a small, energetic team of about three to four mathematic teachers. Buller High School offers maths at all levels, teaching calculus and statistics up to National Certificate of Educational Achievement Level 3. All maths classes will be mixed ability, and senior students are encouraged to bring electronic devices to assist them in their learning. The school has four teaching spaces, and a department office for all staff members in the team.

The role comes with two management units, and one middle management unit. You will be remunerated for the management components of this role with approximately $10,000 NZD,  which will be additional to your base teachers salary.

Relevant skills and experience:

• Hold a relevant qualification in Maths as well as a recognised initial teacher education qualification,
• You will have experience and be confident in teaching Mathematics to senior level students.

Buller district has a total population of about 10,050, covering the small towns of Westport, Karamea and Reefton. Surrounded by an array of national parks, living on the West Coast provides you with the opportunity to immerse yourself in the outdoors: from surfing in Tauranga Bay, fishing and kayaking in the Buller River and trekking on one of the many walking tracks.
