Job overview

Job Title: Headteacher

Location: Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland

Salary: L31-37

Start Date:  September 2019

Contract Type: Full time

Contract Term: Permanent

Berwick Academy plays an important and fundamental role in the lives of families of Berwick upon Tweed in Northumberland.

It is currently in Special Measures and is taking every action to rapidly improve.

Trustees are seeking to appoint an experienced and committed Headteacher/Principal to make a defining contribution to the future of education in Berwick. The potential impact of this role is hard to define and will leave a lasting positive legacy for the young people and families of this beautiful town.

We are seeking an individual who will inspire and deliver; the strengthened Board of Trustees are hugely committed to supporting and challenging senior leaders to improve the outcomes and life chances for the young people. If appointed, you will have our unwavering support to succeed.

Having been through a turbulent few months, current senior leaders are starting to feel the impact of work undertaken and the improvement journey is now well under way.

The school is an inclusive co-educational 13-18 community academy with approximately 500 students. It is located on the edge of the coastal town of Berwick upon Tweed and is well served by transport links. The A1 runs through Berwick and the town is well serviced by the east Coast Mainline trains between London and Edinburgh. Our location makes this post an attractive opportunity as it can be easily commutable.

This is a career defining position and the impact of school improvement will leave a longstanding legacy for the future.

Trustees recognise that this opportunity is not for all candidates and neither should it be. You will want to discuss this with us before you proceed. We would encourage that so that you can feel and hear our passion for our school and the young people and families we serve.

In the first instance, please contact our recruitment partners Vision for Education.

Please call either Diane Jamieson or Katie Mcwilliams on 0191 267 6555 or 07713 323 792 or email permanent@visionforeducation.co.uk for a confidential discussion about the post and your experience.

Application packs for the post can also be obtained this way.

Please note - Previous applicants need not apply

Closing date: 12 noon 4th February 2019

Interviews to be held: week commencing 11th February

Berwick Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils, and expects all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment. You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Berwick Academy has a policy commitment to equal opportunities and diversity in employment and seeks to ensure no employee or applicant receives less favourable treatment than another. All posts are filled on merit.
