Sedgemoor Manor School are looking to recruit an outstanding Teacher (Unqualified) to join our team!

Sedgemoor Manor is a specialist day school for young people who have needs associated with a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum/SPLD and are aged between 10 and 18 years. Our tailored approach means we are able to support young people with a wide range of learning difficulties. We accept that young people who are referred to us may have previously experienced a ‘cycle of failure’ and our aim is to have a transformational impact on their lives by them experiencing a ‘culture of success’. We support all young people to achieve successful outcomes so that they can progress to experience fulfilling and rewarding lives.

As a therapy led provision the Thrive approach is embedded across the school. This is supported by a broad and varied curriculum offer including animal care; pupils at the school enjoy looking after the schools many animals, including goats and miniature ponies.

As Interventions Lead you will be working alongside the teaching and learning team and provide learning activities to meet specified learning needs for individual students. The successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day management and organisation of interventions delivered within the school. You will lead on delivering interventions to support students and significantly raise achievement and should be an excellent classroom practitioner who is able to enhance the educational progress of their assigned pupils.

In addition to this you will take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of young people within the school and will have experience of working with children and young people who struggle with learning difficulties linked to their ASC diagnosis. You should also have experience in delivering sessions to students outside of a classroom environment as well as the ability to adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils. 

Your role as Interventions Lead will mean you will be responsible for raising quality of education for children with specific learning needs. You will teach well-structured sessions to assigned students and assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements. You should be able to demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge and also have knowledge of effective teaching methods. You will also participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for external tests.

As part of this role you will also be expected to cover and lead class teaching (under supervision) and direct the work, where relevant, of other adults in supporting learning. You will also organise and manage teaching space and resources to help maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment and encourage participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activities.

The successful candidate should have good communication skills and have a sensitivity and understanding to help build good relationships with pupils, parents and carers, colleagues and other relevant professionals. The candidate should have knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children and will also understand the importance of confidentiality. 

In addition to relevant experience the successful candidate should have a Level 4 or 5 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or other relevant qualification in education or childcare (or a willingness to work towards a qualification if not already held) good ICT skills, and GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) including English and Maths.
