Our tailored approach means we are able to support young people with a wide range of learning difficulties. We support all young people to achieve successful outcomes so that they can progress to experience fulfilling and rewarding lives.

We offer bespoke packages of education and therapy for our young people. We strongly believe that some individuals will always struggle to ‘fit in’ to existing structures and will only thrive when their provision is tailored to their specific needs and circumstances.

We warmly welcome our students into our community, which is underpinned by a culture of outstanding relationships, nurture and unconditional high regard.

As a therapy led provision the Thrive approach is embedded across the school. This is supported by a broad and varied curriculum offer including animal care; pupils at the school enjoy looking after the schools many animals, including goats and miniature ponies.

The successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day management and organisation of interventions delivered within the school. You will lead on delivering interventions to support students and significantly raise achievement and should be an excellent classroom practitioner who is able to enhance the educational progress of their assigned pupils.

In addition to this you will take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of young people within the school and will have experience of working with children and young people who struggle with learning difficulties linked to their ASC diagnosis. You should also have experience in delivering sessions to students outside of a classroom environment as well as the ability to adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils.

Your role as Interventions Lead will mean you will be responsible for raising quality of education for children with specific learning needs. You will teach well-structured sessions to assigned students and assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements. You should be able to demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge and also have knowledge of effective teaching methods. You will also participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for external tests.

As part of this role you will also be expected to cover and lead class teaching (under supervision) and direct the work, where relevant, of other adults in supporting learning. You will also organise and manage teaching space and resources to help maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment and encourage participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activities.

The successful candidate should have good communication skills and have a sensitivity and understanding to help build good relationships with pupils, parents and carers, colleagues and other relevant professionals. The candidate should have knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children and will also understand the importance of confidentiality.

In addition to relevant experience the successful candidate should have a Level 4 or 5 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or other relevant qualification in education or childcare (or a willingness to work towards a qualification if not already held) good ICT skills, and GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) including English and Maths.

Above all, we provide a supportive and collaborative working environment where you can flourish in your career and feel incredibly rewarded by helping those who need it

Sedgemoor Manor School is a specialist day school registered for 60 young people who have needs associated with a diagnosis on the autism spectrum and who are aged between 7 and 19 years. We accept that young people who are referred to us may have previously experienced a ‘cycle of failure’ and our aim is to have a transformational impact on their lives by them experiencing a ‘culture of success.’ We support all young people to achieve successful outcomes so that they can progress to experience fulfilling and rewarding lives.

We can offer bespoke packages of education and therapy for our young people. We strongly believe that some individuals will always struggle to ‘fit in’ to existing structures and will only thrive when their provision is tailored to their specific needs and circumstances. Many of our students have struggled in mainstream education and thrive in an environment with other autistic students, where the level of support and teaching methods are specifically designed to overcome the challenges that they face.

Sedgemoor Manor offers an environment which promotes self-confidence, self-reliance and self-esteem and provides students with the strategies that they need to meet the challenges associated with their specific learning difficulties. We warmly welcome our students into our community, which is underpinned by a culture of outstanding relationships, nurture and unconditional positive regard.

We are proud to offer a broad range of on-site therapy. Our therapy team includes a Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, mindfulness coach and we are developing a Thrive Approach across the school.

We take pride in the environment we can offer. The school is located in a beautiful, quiet, rural location in Somerset in a manor house, which has a range of outbuildings and extensive grounds. We have specialist rooms for Maths, English, Science, food, DT, mechanics, animal care, horticulture and outdoor learning. We have many animals on site including ponies, sheep, goats, cats, tortoises, fish, turtles, snakes and bearded dragons.

Our facilities for physical education are similarly outstanding. We have nine acres of playing fields where students play most field sports, including cricket, soccer and rugby, together with athletics and tennis on two hard courts. Our purpose-built sports centre houses four badminton courts, volleyball courts and a weight-training gym.
