Applications are invited for an enthusiastic, dynamic, suitably qualified and experienced Learning Support Teacher with a focus on 7 – 12 Curriculum to join Mr Bruce Rixon and the dynamic teaching staff of this fine school. 

This is a full time position till the end of Term 4, 2018 

Malek Fahd is a Kindergarten to Year 12 Muslim School with an enrolment of above 2500 students in 2018 across three campuses: Greenacre, Beaumont Hills and Hoxton Park. This position is for the Greenacre campus. The School is taking a new direction, and, in moving forward is looking for new staff to join the School. This position is open to all faiths.

Applicants will need to have exemplary teaching and relationship skills when working with children and staff, a sound understanding of the role of being a teacher and to be sympathetic to the philosophy of education in our Islamic School.  

Learning Support Teacher - Secondary

Criteria

Specific Selection Criteria

1. Tertiary Qualification 

  • A degree in Special Education and /or TESOL 
  • Experience in implementing learning intervention programs and teaching students with special needs (Secondary)

2. Familiarity and implementation of the NCCD process.

3. Demonstrate the ability to differentiate teaching programs and make adjustments based on identified needs through the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that achieve student learning outcomes.

4. Provide direct support for students with additional learning and support needs through a range of strategies (including in class support, team teaching, small group tuition and one-to-one intervention).

5. Familiarity with standardised testing, eg. YARC, NEALE, TORCH and conduct assessments of students in order to provide appropriate strategies to achieve the learning outcomes of students with disabilities or difficulties

6. Sound knowledge of the Disability Standards of Education.

7. Current knowledge and application of the Disability Provisions Process for students with disabilities.

General Selection Criteria

  • Be good ambassadors of the School
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work in a friendly and cooperative manner with children and colleagues
  • Willingness to attend and actively participate in meetings with other teaching staff to discuss the educational directions and needs of students
  • Reinforce good practices and be a good role model in terms of personal hygiene, grooming, language and punctuality
  • Support Equal Opportunity, adhere to Work      Health and Safety guidelines, and fulfil their duty of care.
  • Strong behavioural management skills and the ability to reinforce      appropriate behaviours in the classroom.
  • Maintain quality and accurate records of      student information
  • Current Working with      Children Check approval number
  • Analyse data,      including NAPLAN, collected on student assessment and provide staff with      best teaching strategies for each student
  • Give a focus to ESL      needs in the classroom
  • Follow up all      interviews (phone or personal), emails or notes with a response to parents      and notes placed on file
  • Any other role as      requested by Coordinator of Learning Support, Head of Campus and the      Principal.

Malek Fahd Islamic School is a mixed gender, all-through, mainstream school, situated in New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1989, Malek Fahd Islamic School is the largest Islamic school in Australia with over 2,000 students.

Teaching & Learning Overview

Malek Fahd Islamic School teaches according to the NSW Board of Studies mandated syllabuses. However, all students are required to study the Religious Education syllabus throughout their schooling. The school also teaches Arabic throughout schooling. Arabic is also offered as a subject for students completing the Higher School Certificate in Year 11 and 12.
 The school also offers a number of sporting and extra-curricular activities including with other schools and local organisations. 

The courses offered at the Secondary school level include English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geography, Business Studies, History, Legal Studies, Religious Studies, The Arts, Physical Education, and Community Language Arabic.

Outdoor Education

To promote healthy eating and healthy lifestyles, students participated in a variety of health awareness programs such as the Crunch and Sip Program, Healthy Harold, boot camp and gymnastics, soccer, athletics and swimming.  
 

Malek Fahd Islamic School involves the students in camp activities, where students are provided with opportunities to develop responsibility, social living skills, environmental awareness, building resilience, independence and confidence using initiative & team-building activities. 

We have 3 sites at Malek Fahd.  The Greenacre Campus, The Beaumont Hills Campus and Hoxton Park Campus.

Greenacre Campus

Malek Fahd Islamic School prides itself on the promotion of care, respect and cooperation. The relationship between our students, parents and staff is the foundation leading to our success. We provide a balanced approach to education which inshaAllah helps us to produce educated Muslim students who contribute positively to Australian society. As proud Australian Muslims, we start our school day with recitations from the Holy Quran and the singing of the Australian National Anthem.

The Greenacre site was built on the back of the community and continues to thrive thanks to the amazing support of parents, students and staff. It has both a primary and secondary campus and is the largest of the three Malek Fahd sites.

Beaumont Hills

Malek Fahd Beaumont Hills Campus has just over 300 students and 25 staff with all the advantages a small campus has to offer. Over the years the campus has been able to establish a close knit community with the help of our supportive parents, students and staff. 

Beaumont Hills’ campus believes in nurturing the whole individual and understands the important role parents play in the education of a child to ensure improved outcomes. Some of the extracurricular activities provided at the campus include netball, choir, Zenith Club, environment club, drama, readers’ theatre, chess and many more.

Hoxton Park

MFHP aims to provide quality education coupled with extra-curricular activities and nurture its students into becoming excellent citizens whilst associated with an established and renowned education facility.

Over the years, our campus has grown in popularity and now attracts hundreds of new enrolments. It is expanding in size each year and the development of the Stage 3 Building site is currently in progress.
