Job overview

Who we are

Robson House is a specialist therapeutic and educational placement for children who cannot attend mainstream school because of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, or who have been permanently excluded from school. We deploy a multidisciplinary team, taking a holistic, developmental approach to understanding and addressing children’s needs.

The Robson House Outreach team supports primary-aged children with SEMH needs and those displaying challenging behaviour. We provide advice and training to practitioners in mainstream schools and to other members of the children’s workforce. We also work directly with individuals and groups of children, and in partnership with parents, to achieve best outcomes for children.

Who we need

We are seeking teachers to provide advice, consultancy and targeted intervention, including direct teaching, for children with SEMH needs and staff working with them in schools and other settings. In this role you will also design, prepare and deliver a variety of training and support to school staff.  We are looking for skilled and experienced primary school practitioners with a good understanding of how to address SEMH needs and reduce challenging behaviour.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (essential)
  • additional recognised SEN qualification (desirable) understanding of SEMH needs and of approaches to meeting them in a mainstream school setting
  • knowledge of the Code of Practice for SEN, including the statutory assessment process and legislation relating to children and young people
  • the skills to help school staff to develop their capacity to support children with SEMH needs
  • the ability to plan, organise, and deliver effective training
  • the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team

We are seeking to appoint 1.4 Full Time Equivalent posts so a job-share will be considered. These are 2-year fixed-term posts initially but with the possibility of extending contracts thereafter.  The postholders will be based at Robson House but will work across the London Borough of Camden.

What we offer you

  • You will be able to draw on the specialist knowledge of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team.
  • You will receive regular supervision from a psychologist specialising in SEMH needs.
  • You will be based at Robson House, located on the Netley Campus in Camden, which benefits from excellent transport links and allows easy access to all the amenities and attractions of central London.

Additional Information

Camden Council values the diversity of its community and aims to have a workforce that reflects this. We therefore encourage applications from all sections of the community.    Camden is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to the current conditions of employment for teachers contained in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document and other legislation. This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS.

We would like the successful applicant to take up the post at the start of the spring term 2019. However, we may be able to agree a later start date under certain circumstances.
